Some of the guards actually went out of their way to help Jews, giving them food and medicine. Are they sure that he wasn't in this category?

I read a book about the American war prisoners in Japan, when Japan surrendered they were stuck in their prison camps but they were no longer prisoners. The first thing they did was hang the mean, hateful guard but for the most part they felt that the rest of the guards were just doing their duty.

All due respect Madame, that's a fiction. The SS were brutal enough but the Latvians , the Ukrainians, Lithuanians and Poles who were their underlings often out did the SS in their barbaric treatment of concentration camp inmates. None of bastards, regardless of their age or the ''just following orders'' defense should be allowed to die peacefully in their sleep.
