I know many, soon to include being married to one. It all depends on the retirement system they’re on. Here in AZ government and almost government employees (my wife works for a community collect that has bought in) get to be in the ASRS system, it’s a point system, earn points every year, the higher your points (to a level) when you retire the higher percentage of your salary you get. The important part there being to a level, 80 points is the magic number in ASRS, when you get more your percentage actually starts to DROP. You get to 80 points generally in 25 to 30 years depending on a lot of stuff. So if you get into the system early and stay retiring at 50 is not only a cinch it becomes NECESSARY otherwise you’re costing yourself money. A lot of people at the community college where she works “retire” and then take non-benefit versions of their old job (so they stop getting points). Others just really retire, all depends on how much of a workaholic they are.
Too small a voting block for the politicians!
So the boomer cry is now, “don’t try anybody under 40?”
Too small a voting block for the politicians
Really? I thought Boomers were a huge voting block. Everyone keeps mentioning how they are going to be so difficult to support in their dodderage.
