Question 1: Is there any difference between Sterno cooking fueland gelling fuels?

Question 2: Is the two year shelf life hard and fast?

I am not familiar with gelling fuels. Sterno is labeled as solid fuel-no liquid to spill. It is however, alcohol based which makes it a pretty clean burn.

The boxes I have on hand are not stamped with any expiration date, and I know that I have had them for at least 5 years maybe more. Just used some the other day when I got up the electric was off and I have to have a cup of coffee first thing. It worked fine.
