"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Hey Gina, what's happening? Lots of rain here. The cold this week killed my car's battery.

Oh, that’s the pits, Vision. I hope you got all charged back up. :-)

It’s been really nice weather here, but we’re getting ready for a cold front moving in tomorrow. It should bring rain.

Otherwise, no news, which is good news, I suppose.

I got it replaced. The price of car batteries has really gone up.

Have you made any fatties yet? This weekend I've been raiding the freezer for bbq and made some chili.

Yeah, everything’s gone up, and it’s not done climbing.

We have not made a fatty yet. We were fascinated with the bacon weave (it doesn’t take much for us :-) and watched a short video of a guy doing one. I thought it was very cool.

Keith went to get the grill ready and found that someone had stolen our new bag of charcoal briquettes off our front porch. This is an evening ruiner. What might be next?

Damn Thieves!

Do you live in an urban area? Is it easy to get to the porch?

We live right off the beach just south of the railroad tracks. We live one street from a nice neighborhood between our house and the beach (our street is so-so with rentals and some dirtbaggish people on it), but just north of the tracks is a predominantly “Democrat” neighborhood (one that votes 97 percent for Obama) with steady crime.

Oh, and yes, it’s easy to get to our porch. It’s not quite but almost a wrap-around type of porch, and the bag of charcoal would have been visible from the street. We don’t really have anywhere to store things, like a shed, so it’s hard not to have things visible on the porch. We’re pretty bummed. It’s been a long time since we were stolen from.

I hate to call the police over a bag of charcoal, but I may just call and give them a heads-up. The nice homes in the neighborhood we live in/near is a regular burglary target of the Democrats north of the tracks.

Last week, capturing the stream from WAMU as always, my podcatcher produced hundreds of mp3 files, each one exactly 32 seconds long. I wrote to WAMU about the problem. I noted that the problem arose at the same time that they somehow had started creating long filenames: “Ed Walker’s Big Broadcast” and “WAMU something something.”

So far this week, it seems to be working right. And the long filenames are gone.

Sorry to hear about your back hurting you, wsgilcrest.
(Hey, I see we signed up on the exact same day in 2000! Happy belated FR anniversary!)

I’m a fan of TuneIn Radio too.
It features many old time radio radio shows that play 24/7.
Easy to record programs for later listening.
Really a great app for an OTR fan.
I highly recommend it.

I know I don’t post much on these threads, but I do enjoy knowing I’m listening to programs along with my Freeper buddies!

Thanks for posting these threads, Vision!

It is good, Vision!
I have often listened to it on the TuneIn app!

Do you like detective shows? Check out http://audionoir.com/

Arthur McGowan, I'm catching The Big Broadcast on WAMU on TuneIn and it's been fine.
If I don't catch it live, I record it. Don't know if it's an option for you, but being free, you can't beat the price!

I changed one porch light to a motion activated one...step off the driveway and it pops on! No crime in my area but a suggestion I liked anyway. Built in sensor but looks just like one on the other side that is a dusk-to-dawn model. Suggested as a power saver and I like it.

Yes, motion lights are a good thing. We have lights on our house at night, front and back.

The method for bad guys here is also daytime thefts. These brazen dirtbags sometimes prefer not to confront homes at night, since homeowners are armed. They hope to hit when they believe no one is home.
