“Sing that song”-me, too-when I heard it in a commercial months ago, I realized that. I remember where I was and who with the first time I heard the song, too-my brain files away most music that way-with events and people, don’t know why.

He gives the impression that many of his songs are autobiographical. You feel that the stories really happened.

“Operator” has always been my favorite-anyone who has loved and lost can relate to that.

Yes, indeed.

Box #10 is my favorite. It’s so plaintive. That and the similar feeling of “New York’s Not My Home”.

I’ve never heard Box #10 before! There are chords and phrases in there that remind me of Rapid Roy the Stock Car Boy, but it has a sad quality. I think he was a brilliant lyricist. Reminds me of Cole Porter the way he can twist a phrase in an unexpected way.

Do you know “Walkin’ back to Georgia”?

Try to not hum along.

He stole songs. Or so I was told by my roommate’s BF in college. He was a guitarist and knew someone who knew someone, etc.

I heard that one for the first time today while looking for these links. It’s a goody!

Then he had great taste in knowing which songs to steal.
