i recall the same thing in suburban Indianapolis back then ~ PLUS ~ there was a rifle cabinet in the main offices so you could check a particularly valuable gun after morning hunting.

When the People are armed and willing to defend themselves and theirs, then we have the best safety available for when the nutjobs decide to kill others. If you put military forces out in sufficient numbers to "protect" us, then you also have them out in sufficient numbers to absolutely control us. You also have the same problem with them as with cops, "When seconds count, cops are only minutes away".

If you want real protection in these no-gun zones, you have to stop the no-gun nonsense and have a percentage of the staff REQUIRED to be trained and armed. These mass-murderers don't pick gun-free colleges/schools/theaters by accident - putting more guns in the mix will greatly reduce their options until they know they will be in a war instead of shooting fish in a barrel.

I've been advocating having a weapon on site, and getting personnel trained to use it for the past several years.

If we ever had a similar situation occur in our rural school district, it would take the sheriff's department 20 minutes, at best, to reach our school.
