The crime rate has been generally falling for about 20-25 years almost everywhere in the country. This despite predictions that violent video games, music, etc, would drive the crime rate up.

You can’t let an awful murder spree like this convince you that somehow society is in need of more government control. The reality is things are not getting worse when it comes to crime, they’ve actually been improving.

>> Want security? Hire security.

Might be an opportunity for LEOs that retire in their 40s.

Any teacher who so chooses should be able to carry.
Standard background checks apply.
If they can't pass a background check, they should not be teaching in the school in the first place.
If they can't be trusted with a gun, why should we trust them with our children?
I can't help but think if even one member of the staff had been armed, the death toll could have been much lower.

Many public schools already have resource officers although they interact more with older students than 6 or 7 years old.

No condoms, no alcohol and my report cards were lit and used to light a cigarette, or something like a cigarette.

Why not just hire extra local policeman and one at each school ?

do you realize the cost of your proposal.....National guardsmen are already paid...just post them as part of their duties.

OK, so you are neither a satirist nor a pyschiatrist (or a patient thereof), so might you be in the construction industry?

Jokes aside, arm the teachers and if the Israeli experience is any guide, the problem will soon disappear.

Do not let this shooting remove perspective. This is neither the first school shooting, it won’t be the last. Evil simply is, and giving up our Constitution guaranteed rights won’t prevent any crime..

National guardsmen are already paid.

They are paid to train in their MOS or AFSC, not pull BS duty that they aren't trained for.

And if there is a terrorist attack and guardsmen are mobilized and called away? Who is watching the schools?

Screw that. Arm the teachers, the smart ones, anyway.

National Guardsmen are paid two days per month. And they can not accomplish their already-assigned tasks in that time.

Capital investment.

Arming the teachers is not enough.

What do you think an armed teacher could do against a team of 32 trained muslim terrorists?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beslan_school_hostage_crisis

I am not calling for the giving up of any rights.

I am calling for the defendnig of our treasure with our God given right to bear arms.

An armed teacher is a step in the right direction. It is also an insufficient measure that will be defeated.

And they can not accomplish their already-assigned tasks in that time.

Not to mention updating their mobility folders, getting their shots/dental/piss tests/NBC training/UXO training/diversity training/UCMJ training, etc... signed off, without pencil whipping it.

People don't realize what reservists/guard do.

And of course, in the guard, you pretty much have to wait for someone to retire or die before a slot opens so you can advance in rank. Reserves, not so much.

"When I was in high school —1,200 kids, I could have gone into the parking lot and found over 200 rifles and shotguns in students’ cars and pickups ... most in plain view in gun racks... all the vehicles unlocked and all of the guns loaded. Funny thing, my husband said the same about his high school in semu-rural Mississippi/Arkansas in the '60s.

,I.I’m VERY serious in my belief that the teachers need to be trained and carry all the time.”

I don’t agree.,/I. ,P.

if the perp in this case had known that every teacher, custodian, counselor, nurse, etc. in this school was armed...he never would have inveded in the first place.

we have a supply of nuclear weapons so that no one will use them against us....works well so far.

Jeez people, you're supposed to understand this country. How about we not go with the military/police state and go with a little bit more Ben Franklin instead.

Every able bodied person is the militia. If every one of those dead adults had been trained and carrying a gun, how many do you think would have died then? It's not like your children are actually being educated in schools, so what's the difference if teachers take a few more days of pistol training. There really is no police/milt state required.

Amen!

Congress did draw some age lines, but, as with most of the blather coming out of DC, I ignore it.
