Best holster for teachers?
Vanity

Posted on 12/18/2012 10:20:24 PM PST by exhaustguy

What is the best holster to use when you Conceal Carry while working as a teacher in middle and high school? In particular a gym, shop, or music teacher who is in close contact with his/her students. What holster works best to avoid the gun being seized when working day to day and possibly being distracted by another student?

Google “SmartCarry” , without the apostrophes.

Your students may never know you are carrying, and they are going to have to reach pretty far into your pants to get the weapon away from you.

Plus, when one of the little cherubs aims a blow at your groin, your weapon will deflect it.

Not the fastest draw the world has ever seen, but because it comes from an unexpected direction it is surprisingly effective. I had a concealed carry instructor ask me to draw my weapon, and he was astonished when I had it drawn and at the ready before he even had a chance to determine where I was carrying it.

If your primary concern is keeping it from being grabbed by someone else, the black hawk SERPA type holsters are supreme. It would be extremely difficult for a hostile to take this gun out of it's holster. Problem is, they don't conceal a firearm very well, not as well as other leather CCW holsters. So, everyone knows you're packing. Plus they aren't very comfy IMO.

I prefer the Akers flatsider because nobody can tell it's there. It's so comfy, you can forget it's there. It can be had with or without a thumb break. The version without a thumb break has a tension screw for customizing how tightly the holster grips your weapon. The craftsmanship is equivalent to a custom holster or better. also IMO. I can conceal a full size Glock .45 with mine by wearing a polo shirt that is slightly larger than it needs to be. I typically carry a Glock 30 subcompact .45 in it (which is still a fairly large CCW pistol) and it conceals extremely well. If nobody knows you have it, they won't be inclined to take it away.

You may wait a while to get one though. They're pretty slow at the Akers holster factory.

Depends on body type as well as clothing choices, tho a belly band offers both concealability and an extra clothing layer to defeat someone spotting & snatching it off the teacher.

Why shouldn't nurses be able to carry on the job? I'm not trying to start an argument, just wondering about your thoughts.

Of course, most hospitals have security on site (with guns) which significantly reduces response time. Maybe schools need to go down that route. Teachers, administrators, custodians, etc. are already there so why not train and arm them?

I would suggest you consider the Galco “Royal Guard” line of IWB holsters.

This is my favorite: CrossBreed

Its not going to stop someone from grabbing your weapon if they can get under your shirt and by your waist band though. For that you are going to want a level-2 or preferably level-3 type holster.

Those are usually plastic molded that are made to fit your gun. They take a sequence of events (push of a button, or the button plus a certain angle of draw) to access your weapon.

I don't know of any comfortable IWB type holsters made in level 2 or 3 but if one exists, you're in the right place for someone to come along and correct me, which I would appreciate!

The Cross Breed linked to above is by far the best "all day" comfort holster that I have found and I've been looking for over a decade.

I agree, I’m wearing a Crossbreed Supertuck right now with a Glock G23 in it. Sometimes I forget I’m wearing it.

An Annals of Emergency Medicine study in September found that hospital shootings are rare and typically involve a "determined shooter," targeting a particular person for revenge, suicide and euthanizing an ill relative.

Mitch Rosen “workman” carrying a SW Airweight Mod 37 loaded with Glaser Safety Slugs. With. Spare bianchi speed strip in the teachers pocket.

Modify the small snub nose with the Magna-trigger modification so no one but the teacher can use that handgun.

Keep it simple, keep it clean, keep it and the students safe ....

Just what I would “ask” my school staff to consider carrying.....

Stay safe

Ankle holster, used by many police/detectives to secure backup; allows wear without sport coat/suit (men).

For the ladies, probably a purse holster would be the least uncomfortable unless they wear slacks all the time.

>>we have more nut jobs and druggies and drunks running around in a hospital than your average school<<

No you don’t. Take into account the drug-crazed parents who fight with each other in the school lobby every day...I suggest you visit an inner city school [anywhere USA] some fine morning.

Have you ever had a *patient* slash all 4 tires on your vehicle?
