INDIANAPOLIS While legislators in other states are wrestling with the idea of allowing teachers to carry guns in school, experts say Indiana law already allows it.
The idea has gained traction following the school shooting in Connecticut.
In Indiana, anyone appointed as a school security guard can carry a gun on school property. In most cases, guards are off-duty police officers, but they don't have to be.

Bull Excrement
I'm pretty sure our local Principal does. He just smiled and winked when asked about it
Could Indiana’s teachers be liable if something would happen and they aren’t packing?
There is a very serious thing about this, though -- I suppose that each one armed will be individually accountable for maintaining personal possession, for access to the device, and for the consequences of its use. That's pretty formidable in a school setting.
I think this shows a possible future path for gun rights.
Right now, states have kind of a “hands off” approach to gun rights. That is, to chip away at restrictions and inhibitions to gun rights. A good job so far.
However, states can also do things to *encourage the exercise* of gun rights. Such as:
Sponsoring rifle clubs in schools and Boy and Girl Scout troops.
Producing instructional DVDs about all sorts of hunting and target shooting activities in the state, to legal and safety guides.
Creating a good business environment for gun and ammunition makers, even commissioning state oriented gun engraving art that highlights things unique to the state, so such guns can be given as commemorative gifts.
The list goes on and on.
All AP material must be excerpted to 1/2 for small articles and 300 words for longer ones.
When you walk into a high school here in Terre Haute the first trhing you do is check in with at least one armed member of the Terre Haute Police Dept.
I wish they would do that at the middle and elementary schools as well.
And that's all he should say.
I believe that having responsible and well prepared C&C staffing at schools can be effective if these selected personnel are also given opportunity to meet/notice any perpetrator before violence happens. As such I would propose an early warning system of participants beyond the concealed carriers. I would have a system whereby all school staff would have a remote control for a bunch of sirens around the school grounds whereby if they noticed any suspicious person they could press the remote to turn on the sirens. I realize there are/could be criticisms about too frequent use of the the remotes accompanied by unneeded disturbance. However, I also believe that sirens would take the perpetrator out of their mental attitude that they control the environment perhaps even to the point of mental confusion for a short time.
When I attended school just outside Rochester, NY, our shop teacher conducted a gun safety class and we brought unloaded weapons (rifles) in to use for dry sighting and familiarization. He and my Dad arranged to take a bunch of us out to a local shooting range. Couldn't do that today.
Think about what you just said, “Couldn’t do that today”. Why not? In fact, it *could* be done soon, if not today, with just some changes to state laws, and telling teachers and administrators opposed to guns that while they may choose to not participate, they have no authority to block or interfere with what others do.
While they get little press, and no union representation, there are still a LOT of conservative teachers out there who would be willing to do this, if the states provided them protection from harassment from administrators and their peers.
Importantly, there are also a LOT of kids from families that would be all in favor of gun instruction and practice for their kids. And not just boys, either.
I understand your points. I was referring to the zero tolerance environment where kids get suspended for drawing a picture of a gun - tough to bust through that nonsense. That said, if we approach our Freedoms the same way the Left demonizes those Freedoms, by going at it with a single-minded purpose and never letting up, there might be a chance.
We can always hope, but right-minded People need to take the bull by the horns and twist until its neck breaks - I haven't seen that kind of determination from our side of the aisle in either politicians or People.
