Word For The Day, Wednesday, 12-26-12 -- oneiric
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
oneiric
adjective
of or pertaining to dreams.
Etymology: 185560; < Greek óneir ( os ) dream + -ic
Here is my example with WFTD.
As the final days of 2012 approach, I find myself wondering if Ive been in an oneiric stupor, and will reawaken in a country that has a president who loves and respects it and who has the best interests of its people, rather than his own, in his heart.
Let’s go, class! Break those oneiric chains and get that homework in.
2012 has indeed been an oneiric hell.
And it didn’t even end on 12/21/12.
People used to say, climate is what you expect, and weather is what happens.
So I adapted that to my philosophy. Dreams are what you live for, and life is what happens.
I can’t even watch the news, I’m in such an oneiric
state. I’ve watched the most ridiculous old movies. There is NOTHING uplifting on TV these days, and the theatres are worse.
Over the Feast of the Nativity, I’ve been in an almost oneiric state, in which love, peace, and justice triumph.
Now I awaken to a world in which the evil puppet king obama rules, and in which the country I have known and loved has been smashed beyond repair by the machinations of Ted Kennedy. Lord have mercy!
Nevertheless, it is still Christmas—we are in the second of the Twelve Days. Jesus Christ came into a world in which an evil puppet king and an evil emperor ruled. Many of His own ancestors according to the flesh had been evil kings. Yet He still triumphed over sin, the devil, and death itself. Thanks be to God!!!!

Well stated.
Some disturbing oneiric images came to mind when I first went to sleep, waking me and making me think twice about getting another dog. I’ve been tempted by one at the metro shelter and they were closed Saturday when I went by after work to see him. I know we could give him a good home but think the chaos of the holidays, with so much stuff out and about would complicate the process of settling a new member into the household.
So I think I am getting plenty of signals that it is not a good idea and yet I keep clicking on the website to see that he is still there.

It’s tough getting everything done this time of year.
Very true. We didn’t have our regular dinner last night since I had to work all day so when I came home, we opened gifts and spoke on the phone with family. Today the spouse is back at work, it’s cold and rainy and I think I will fix the big dinner for tonight instead. But I am secretly wondering if I should squeeze in a visit to the shelter to see that dog!
When I first saw this word I thought it would have something to do with wine. Wine influenced dreams, perhaps?
Also the lights went out on the tree(yes, every one) so we need to pull off the strands that came with it and wind new ones in their place and try them before boxing it up for the year. That will be a pain in the neck job.
Being an oenophile can cause one to become oneiric.
Dealing with the Oneiric self-aggrandizement of Obama over the next four years will be onerous, to say the least

Yes, Obama puts The One in onerous.
Christmas lights hooked in series (when one dies, they all die!) have caused consternation since Edison started the whole mess.
