ISLAMORADA, Fla., - Authorities in Florida said they arrested a United Parcel Service worker for allegedly stealing packages, including an iPad and a box of cookies.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the manager of the warehouse in Islamorada called investigators Dec. 10 and reported an iPad and iPhone that had been sent out for delivery but returned undelivered had vanished from the warehouse.
The manager said he suspected an employee was behind the theft.
Deputies soon learned another employee had told his supervisor Shuwana Horne had opened a package meant for a customer and shared the cookies she discovered inside with her co-workers, claiming she had purchased the treats earlier in the day.
However, the supervisor discovered the empty cookie package in the trash and it was determined Horne had changed the package's status in the UPS computer system to "receiver moved, not delivered/returned to shipper."
Investigators confronted Horne at her residence and she allegedly admitted to taking the cookies and the iPad, which she said she had sold for $250 to someone at the Collier County Casino. However, she denied any involvement in stealing the iPhone.
Love Islamorada — would live there if I could afford it. Now you have me craving conch fritters and the key lime pie at the Lor-E-Lei :b
