U.S. Troops in Afghanistan respond to a video made by the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders of the "Call Me Maybe" video. It made me laugh and I had never heard the song before...enjoy and Happy New Year!

There are perfectly sound, logicsl reasons for a conservative to have tuned out certain aspects of pop culture. For me, music isn’t one of those aspects.

I do love music and a wide variety of it, but I detest sappy dance acts made marginally palatable with heavy use of autotune. The song in question is pleasant enough for that sort of music, and is all but unavoidable if you’re out in public much at all, but I honestly couldn’t tell you which dancer with a bluetooth mic on her head lipsynced it while jumping around and shaking her rear, lol.

I’ve got news for you pal....the vast majority of people older than fifty most likely don’t know any popular songs created in the last ten-twenty years. And they probably could recognize only a very tiny percent of today’s entertainers: singers, musicians, actors, comedians, etal. Like the poster you’re amazed at because he hasn’t heard that song you’re talking about, I’ve never heard of it either.

"excellent observation"

No, in fact it's an amazingly ignorant observation. I would bet a lot of money any person who is a regular on FR obviously knows a lot about what's going on in the country politically.

I'm reminded of a W.F. Buckley (you do know who he was, don't you?) article from forty years ago when he recounted a conversation he had with a grandkid. The grandkid was babbling about Elton John being a great musician. Buckley then asked his grandkid who Elton John was. I had Elton John records, but I think Buckley knew a little more about what was going on in the country than I did.

I’ve never heard the song — never heard of it.

“I am reminded of a conversation I had with a woman I was dating in the late 90s.”

I’m reminded of a guy I was dating back in the mid ‘90s. Younger. Much younger. One day he announced that he had just heard a great song on the radio by a “new group” — Three Dog Night. I moved on.

Invite them to a game of touch football.

That was around the same time that ‘new’ group Santana came out with that song “Smooth”.

“Watching TV substitutes for real life now?”

Of course. They even have TV shows about TV shows.

Nine times out of ten when standing in the check out line at the grocery I have no clue who are the celebratard faces gracing People mag and other gossip rags.

“Seriously, If you haven’t heard this song in a bank, gas station, restaurant, store, etc., you’re not paying attention.”

Nope. But I have selective hearing and tune out crap all the time.

Which sorta’ explains Bronco Bama’s election. No one is paying attention to the people who are not paying attention.

You’ve never heard this song before? Do you live in a salt mine 10,000 ft. below the surface?

***********

No, I’m above ground. The only radio I listen to is talk radio on occasion. IF I listen to music it’s C&W not Pop/HipHop or whatever you call it. I shop online so no mall Muzak, either. In fact, I haven’t been to a mall in about 10 years.

I watch FOX news, Tweet and read FR and a daily newspaper for my info so I am not in a “bubble” about current events. BTW, the last song I liked this much was titled “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat. That was about 5 years ago. I’m picky, I guess.

That’s what I said! Love the troops letting off some steam. They deserve it.
