The Hollow Shell of a Republic

Posted on 01/02/2013 1:51:42 PM PST by Jacquerie

A mere half of the electorate understands that Obama despises the reps of the people, the lawgivers, the Congress of the United States.

From his infamous, "If Congress doesn't act, I will," to yesterday when he cautioned Congress not to make a future fuss over raising the debt limit, Obama regards Congress as nothing more than a legitimizing rubber stamp . . . to give the facade of law to his diktats.

Obama is drunk with power, and not only wants more of it, he wants it all. Absent opposition, which disappeared yesterday evening, he is set to get what he wants and more. Never forget that last night's legislation went from the President to the Senate to the House and back to its source in less than twenty-four hours. This is not deliberation, this is tyranny dressed up as republican government.

The Roman historian Tacitus wrote of the second emperor: "Tiberius often as he left the Senate-House used to exclaim in Greek; "How ready these men are to be slaves."

Obama has the same respect for Congress and a once free American people.

The states are the ones holding the line these days and the GOP has nearly half of them firmly under our control.

Hussein really does see himself as the American Castro.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared." --

Obama couldn’t have been less graceful and more arrogant.

The people have elected a Czar and are unaware of the calamity.

Agree. Even his butt-boy Jay Carney is comfortable slinging insults at the House.

Obama is from the same mold as Saddam Hussein and Stalin.

“If Congress doesn’t act, I will,”

The House needs to call his bluff on this one.

"The House needs to call his bluff on this one."

I wonder if it is a bluff. Trial balloons are being floated that he has the constitutional authority to exceed the debt limit and make payments regardless of Congressional authority. If he did, who would stop him, Boehner? The courts would probably say that any challenger or Congress would have to file a lawsuit and we can litigate it through the Federal courts for a few years. The unthinkable becomes thinkable.

They still need to stand theri ground on this one and refuse to raise the debt limit, and refuse to appropriate any money for anything that Obama favors. At least they redeem themselves a little. They also need to fire their PR people and get new ones.

And the President will at the very least, be shown to have the contempt for the Constitution that we know he has. Will that influence the low-information voters? Probably not.

Robert Heinlein once wrote that you can’t fool all the people all the time, but you can fool enough of them to run a good sized country.

Hussein clearly dared Congress to cross him over the debt limit.

Agree. Congress must call his bluff.
