We let Ernie the ermine go.

I can understand how that happened. We had a construction project on our house and the workers were adamant about a wild "ferret" that kept coming down to share food from their lunches. They were serious about it. A couple of months later the "ferret" came right in the garage and sat down while I was working. LOL. It reminded me of a ferret, but I knew better.

It was a stoat and I also saw him later with his winter coat. They are uncommon this far south in western PA.

Back in 2003, my cat suddenly died. It was 100% unexpected since he was only a year old and full of life. I was heart broken, cried for a month - cried worse than Boehner.

One day I was driving and spotted the most beautiful kitten by the road. Oh! a blessing from God! I parked the car and tried to catch this kitten. It ran alongside the road and darted into bushes when I got too near. I was amazed how quietly and quickly it was able to dart in and out of bushes while trying to get away from me. It was too cunning for being a kitten, it had “street smarts”. I finally gave up.

Later that night I realized I had been chasing a young bobcat. I laughed at myself. That snapped me out of being depressed about my lost cat. I did enjoy the adventure and God does protect the stupid. LOL

The female bobcat isn’t much bigger than a good sized house cat. A mature male is another story.

Bobcats can and do successfully mate with house cats and produce offspring that look like big house cats. They tend to carry the tufted ears though. House cats are genetically very close to their wild cousins.

Regards,
GtG

Heard that wildcat in the suitcase story nearly fifty years ago. It’s made the rounds. Still funny, though.

That stoat is the reason my daughter begged for a real ferret. She saved her money and bought one.

I tell people, even with regular housecats.

IF
your cat was twice as big as it is now
AND
you were only half as tall as you are now...

You would not be the “owner”
You would be the “lunch”!

[She quickly pulled over and got out, and the bobcat jumped out and went under the van, seeking protection, authorities said.

Sadly, the cat had to be put down because the strike from the car was fatal.]

This doesn’t make a ton of sense.

I once came across a tiny bobcat in Palomas Mexico. A couple of local guys came into a bar there with the little kitten in a tiny cage and were having great fun teasing the poor girl. I bought(rescued)the Kit for $10. It was quite a challenge raising Kit as she wasn’t weaned when I got her and being in high school at the time, I wasn’t used to someone needing my attention every couple of hours.

We lived out in the country (25 miles from town) and I lived in the guest house at the time, so it was a good place for Kit and me. She had free reign and the dogs gave her a wide berth. She left once at about 6 months but found life on her own a little difficult (pregnant I think) and returned home for another 4-5 weeks then she left for good.

She was much bigger than the biggest house cat I’ve ever seen at 6 months. I had beaded gloves right by the door and if she didn’t meet me at the door I put them on as I knew it was going to be a Pink Panther-Kato thing (a play fight to the death) and I had to be ready.

One of the most gorgeous sights I’ve ever seen was driving very slowly down the Skyline Drive one fall day. Something dropped off the bank into the road up ahead and it took a sec or two for me to realize it was a bobcat. It had to be a tom ... just built really well, muscles rippling as he power-trotted across the road. When he reached the other side, he leaped up on a rock wall ... and briefly, it was almost as if he posed there. Finally, he dropped on off the other side and I didn’t see him any more. I’ve never quite gotten over that sighting - only wild one I’ve ever seen. That was one gorgeous cat!!

That was a really wonderful thing you did.

For the life of me, I can’t understand the impulse by some mean people to tease and harass animals in that way.

Sad that the bobcat was fatally injured and had to be euthanized.

I’m sure my office mate heard the story as well. Probably the reason why the did it!

How many times has somebody heard something and then tried or did it?

I know I have MULTIPLE times in my life.

Yeh, “Hold muh beer!”
