A Saucier hunter suspects his father's deer dog is dead.
H.W. Krohn doesn't have proof, just a bloody collar he's turned over to Naval Construction Battalion Center investigators and a sad story to tell.
A Seabee spokesman said the incident is under investigation. So far, Krohn's dog has not been found.
Krohn has hunted the woods around Mississippi 15 for most of his 57 years, and more than once he's had a few deer dogs end up on Camp Keller, where the military's Woolmarket Rifle & Pistol Range is...
Usually the dogs come back out the same way they went in -- through a barbed-wire fence in the back of the ammunitions range off Mississippi 67, he said.
On Dec. 29, Krohn's father's 2-year-old Walker named Lil Gray and another dog ran a yearling deer onto the federal property.
The dogs had trailed the deer for eight to 10 miles... before they slipped through the fence at the back of the rifle range.
That area is off limits to civilians and "keep out" signs are posted... [SNIP]
Krohn believes a Navy security officer shot and killed the two dogs that day while he and the other dog's owner were calling for them from outside the fence.

Krohn said the men stood in a ditch on public land and yelled for the dogs.
"We were trying to holler them out so they would come out of the barbed-wire fence," he said.
A man in plain clothes driving an unmarked vehicle stopped and identified himself as a Navy security officer, Krohn said.
He told them it was a military facility and keep-out signs were posted.
"Yes, sir, I know that," Krohn said he told him, "but I don't believe a dog can read. We're just trying to get our dogs back."

A few things. First of all, when approached by someone in uniform, *always* look at and remember their name tag. If the name tag is covered with tape, watch out, they are up to no good. If they are driving a vehicle, you *always* note the license number of the vehicle.
If this individual was indeed military, it is extremely wrong for them to discharge a weapon unless they have a very good reason. And such discharges are accountable. You just don’t show up with missing bullets and a dirty weapon.
If they will shot our dogs, they will shot us.
In many states dogs chasing wildlife or livestock are considered predators.

having grown up in this area, I know exactly where this is...so very sad for the hunters and the dogs.
The government is set to take away our guns. Dogs are shot by police and “security officers” because they are a perceived threat. But dogs will also be shot because they can serve as “soldiers” (like military police dogs) and because they can alert us to noises/danger. Our homes will be taken because they control the banks. Our access to medical care, finance, grocery, gas will be controlled by the government. Christian religion is under attack; military chaplains are forced to conduct homosexual marriage ceremonies. Upside down world fer sure.
I never thought “Animal Farm” or “1984” would be real. But times are a’changing fast...

I have to deal with dishonest deer dog hunters more than I care to. They sit on the roads and put their dogs out on private property so the dogs can run the deer off the private property into the ambush set up near or on the road. Their typical response is that their dogs cannot read property signs. I have to question the veracity of the dog owners claim as he may have been caught doing the same and is trying to alibi himself out of guilt.

Yeah, if you read the story, the guy apparently routinely lets the dogs on the military property. Around here (MS Gulf Coast) there’s plenty more deer area to hunt than near military land.
Well, in some States[Va]. They have right-to-retrieve laws which grant 'hunters' 'permission' to enter your property and retrieve their dogs, without your permission.
If they can find the perp... they are done in the Navy... if private security... they will be prosecuted. Popping that weapon off was a major mistake.

Check to see if the hounds had been vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian as per the state law. These dog deer hunters think that they are above the law in most aspects. I’d wager the dogs have never seen the inside of a veterinary hospital. There is a subset of hog hunters in Mississippi that use their dogs for feral hogs and do a pretty good job of keeping them healthy and looking after their basic health needs. The deer dog hunters on the other hand usually don’t follow any laws, public land or animal care.
