The multi-millionaire founder and bassist of heavy metal band Iron Maiden is selling his Essex rock star mansion, which includes its own pub called the Horse and Cart.

Steve Harris’ £6.75 million ($11 million) house also has an indoor swimming pool surrounded with garish murals of voluptuous women, vikings and Gothic pictures on the walls, which wouldn’t be out of place on one of the band’s horror album covers. Outside there is an old-fashioned red telephone box, floodlit tennis court and a full-sized football pitch with home and away changing rooms. …

Long-haired Harris, 56, who released his first solo album last year called British Lion, is said to be selling up because he now spends too much time abroad. …

Taxation strikes again, I would say. It can’t just be that Harris is out of the country a lot.

You’re probably right.

And I love the look of the place, in general. Lots of pictures at the link, folks, but they’re short on pics of the garish murals of busty women. In the interests of saving other FReepers a click and scrolling, I checked.

Wow, that is cool!

(I think I saw it in an episode of “Midsomer Murders,” too.)

Interesting place, although it doesn’t seem to have a driveway of any kind nor any landscaping out front.

The article says there was a property at that site in the Doomsday Book. You’d think a British publication would know that’s “Domesday.”

Maiden is on the road a lot. And most of his kids are grown. One thing you know for sure is this is a solid business decision, one of the reasons Maiden is so successful is off stage it’s a pure business with cost analysis and audience demographic research. Interviews with him are very interesting.
