Why nobody really cares if Storage Wars is fake

These days, if you Google “Storage Wars,” likely two things will come up. First, is the fact that yet another version of the ever-popular A&E reality show is set to launch in January – Storage Wars: New York – and, second, that one of the original cast members, David Hester, recently claimed in a lawsuit that “nearly every aspect of the show is faked.” The latter has somewhat overshadowed the former in terms of publicity, and yet, based on the continued popularity of the series, there’s little doubt Storage Wars: New York will be a success, because if there’s anything we know about ourselves these days, it’s that nobody cares if reality television is exactly the opposite of what it says it is.

To explain: Storage Wars is an immensely successful program that shows, half an hour at a time, a group of Californians who spend their time bidding on repossessed storage lockers in the hopes of finding something inside that will make them a large profit. Generally, at least one of the five main characters is successful – sometimes wildly – but often, some go home having lost cash on their purchases. It seems real enough. But in his recent lawsuit, Hester claims the show’s producers sometimes salt lockers with items that weren’t originally there (perhaps uncovered in another locker) to make the show more interesting. Hester claims he complained about the practice and was fired from the program. Thus, his litigation.

These junk to riches shows are conditioning Americans to the third world economy that’s just around the corner.

It isn’t that no one cares, it is that it is so obvious it is just repeating what they already know. That is like saying that McDonald’s isn’t health food.. Duh...

All reality shows are staged, scripted, or just plain fake.

Have you paid this month's protection money to Lebanon Levi?

What really stretches credibility is "Barter Kings." Yeah, I'll trade you this rusty nail for that $4000 bottle of Marilyn Monroe wine. Deal?

BTW, I do barter but you have to trade for something somewhere in the same retail price range for what you are offering. In my case, I sometimes trade a couple dozen bottles of body wash for a bottle of Grey Goose vodka but what they do on the TV show is ABSURD.

The show just got better with the arrival of the Amish Midget Enforcer with the sledge hammer.

And why not? The network “news” has been fake for years.

Operation Repo is completely fake. The entire show is scripted and the people on the show are actors.

Yeah, and he conveniently smashed the windshield for all to see on national TV. No problem getting the evidence to convict him. BTW, why are the Virginia authorities looking for those Moonshiners when all they have to do is turn on the TV to find and identify them?

If you pay attention you’ll notice that John isn’t officially Amish since he was never baptized. Jolin is Mennonite and Lebanon Levi (Levi King Stoltzfus) was excommunicated.

Great question that I've asked.

C'mon what kind of stupid sheriff just lets the local yokel buy enormous amounts of piping and propane, goes into the woods where nobody is looking, except for the Discovery channel crew.

That HAPPENS to find all of the hooch-makers in the county?

I'm no expert on rural West Virginia, but my guess is that these documentary makers might stick out a tad among the locals.

The "tell"? The big van with the Discovery channel logo painted on the side, staying at the only Best Western in three counties.

Goodness, just follow the only city slickers around who arrived a couple of weeks ago.

How-dee!

I use this show to judge people’s intelligence. Anyone who says they watch and like this show, I consider nitwits. Anyone getting mad at me when I say this, I consider totally stupid and you can’t fix stupid!
