Flu bug overwhelms local hospitals

Seven Chicago-area hospitals have had to send ambulances elsewhere this morning as they deal with an influx of patients with flu-like symptoms.

As of 9:45 a.m., the hospitals remained on bypass status, which means their emergency rooms are at capacity and non-critical patients are being re-routed to other hospitals, said Melaney Arnold, spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Public Health...

Took a patient into the hospital two ays ago and had to wait 45 minutes to get the patient off the Ambulance cot.

No beds.

That’s 45 minutes that others in the Community were without Ambulance service.

They had beds and recliners in the halls of the Emergency room filled up. Where I live there is no other hospital within 40 minutes ride. I would suppose even that hospiotal was full too.

Didn’t Mooch get paid over $350K per year to send ambulances to other hospitals or am i thinking about another wookie?

Going to the hospital because of the flu? That’s the first problem.

In most cases, the flu merits nothing more than drinking plenty of fluids and rest at home while watching Days Of Our Lives or Judge Judy reruns.

There are people with existing conditions who cannot withstand the dehydration that can come w/flu. I know a couple. One is only 47. They get the flu, they get dehydrated and they need IV fluids, fast or they can have serious repercussions, even death. One has already been in the hospital ICU once this season.
