I have used a similar argument such as: Gee, I never knew we had a cure for all those germaphobes who have to constantly be washing their hands. Just cut their hands off. Problem fixed.
You are correct. That would be nuts. But, how is it different from someone who says that they "constantly feel they are the wrong sex". I have heard some of these people say that they just can't get past the feeling that they are the wrong sex. Well, to me that sounds like obsessive compulsive behavior. So, if we don't cut the hands off of OCD people who constantly wash their hands because of "germs"; why do we cut off sex organs of people who have the obsession that they are the wrong sex.
I suppose it is easier than trying to help them in other ways; but, really, does it help?
Maybe the state should pay for it, but only if it is done BEFORE they sire or have any children, could be seen as a way to “Take the muck out of the gene pool” per se.
I would rather have the state pay for vasectomies/castrations, tubal ligations/hysterectomies that to have it pay for abortions via “planned unparenthood”
But then my Little l libertarian kicks in and says the gov shouldn’t, at least the federal gov should spent a damned plugged nickel on any of this, if the individual state wants to, let them.
People are free to poke all sorts of crap in their skin and look like poster children for the “spot welding society”, they wish to mutilate themselves, let them, but they should damn well pay for it themselves.
