Any one know anything about NJ law on buying guns. Can I buy out of state without a permit if I am a Jersey resident? I am told it may take 3 months to get cleared.
NO! Big federal no-no to purchase handguns out of state. It is federally legal to purchase long guns (rifles and shotguns) out of state, but only if the sale complies with the laws of your home state, which for New Jersey it would not. In New Jersey you need a Firearm Identification Card before you can purchase any gun.
You are stuck with the "gun safe" laws of your state. Work within them, and work to change them.

Permit to purchase is a requirement if you bring the weapon back to New Jersey. Liberal counties tend to drag their feet on applications, unless of course you are RAT connected. Though a "may issue" state, carry permits are nearly impossible to obtain.
