Army Major from South Florida to Attend Obama's Inauguration (Military Excited About Him)

"It’s an honor to be part of this historic event," Maj. Jorge E. Vargas says

An Army major who hails from South Florida says he is looking forward to his rendezvous with history: Monday, he will serve in his military capacity at President Barack Obama's second inauguration.

“In my shoes, it’s an honor to be part of this historic event, celebrating democracy and supporting the military in celebrating freedom,” Maj. Jorge E. Vargas said in a phone interview Wednesday.

Vargas, 36, said that even though he has served in the military 17 years, Monday’s inauguration will be the first one he attends.

A married father of two, he is a Colombia native who grew up in Kendall and graduated from Braddock Senior High. He now is stationed in Washington, D.C., where up to an estimated 800,000 will gather on the National Mall and along the inauguration parade route.

An array of local law enforcement agencies will be there, too, helping manage crowds and being on the lookout for any potential threat.

For the inauguration, Army personnel are assigned to assist members of the president’s cabinet, and Vargas’ role is to serve as a military assistant for Vice President Joe Biden’s family, he said.

He will assist the family as a military escort, ensuring they get to the right place at the right time without complications. He said, however, it not as a security escort.

Because so much preparation is done before the event, he said he expects next week’s inauguration to go smoothly.

“The success of this operation is due to the training and professionalism” of the military and authorities, he said. “We are thankful for the support we receive from the American people.”

Of the inauguration, he added, "We in the military are very excited."

What's the over/under on how many countries Obama will invade in his second term?

Hopefully, the excited major will get a chance to kiss King Barry’s feet. That should really make his millennium.

Gazing deeply into my crystal ball . . . I foresee a brilliant military future for Major Jorge E. Vargas. So long as Liberals remain in charge of the military.

This officer is a prime example of people from other cultures and government origins who are only shills to change our heritage. The evil factor of this is that they have only used the USA for their own historical beliefs. The major represents the hidden danger to our Founders intentions. I write as a son of immigrants and a WWII vet who has seen many who would reap the sweat and blood of true patriotic service persons to cuddle up to an imposter like Obama.

I had the same thought...I served 21 years on active duy, and my career was hardly stellar. Still, by the time I reached O-4, I had an MSM w/OLC, an Air Force Commendation w/ 3 OLCs, an Air Force Achievement ‘Medal, a Joint Service Achievement Medal, plus an Air Medal and an Aerial Achievement Medal. Hate to say it, but this Army doesn’t seem to have a lot on the stick. But in today’s finest PC military tradition, he’s arranged a Pentagon tour where his ethnicity can help advance his career. By the time Obama leaves office, this guy will be a below-the-zone selected for full Colonel, with an in-residence slot to a war college and a return to the Pentagon or White House where he’ll get his ticket punched for his first star.

Seems to be a poster boy for the Perfumed Princes, as David Hackworth used to describe them.

My only positive comment: the good Major doesn’t speak for a majority of the military—yet.

He’ll probably get a Soldier’s Medal for his participation in the inauguration.

We met an officer at the uniform shop last week that was scrambling for uniform items. it seemed he was “asked” to attend the inauguration and had to spend about $500 just to get up to date.

In the sea-going world, normally only warship O-4/O-5 Commanding Officers received end-of-tour MSMs, as well as practically everyone on the Admiral’s staff above E-7.
