It sounds like the czar of state security couldn't produce a believable "legend" for this simple operation. No wonder Newtown is so "squishy". They'll have to just dump both incidents down the memory hole, and issue a comprehensive history of both of them, after cleaning up all the questions and contradictions.
They should also validate any other legends they have on file to make sure they don't fall into question after just a few hours. Their experienced operatives should at least check to see if their songbooks match, and they're all on the right page.

No they don’t. A couple media outlets reported that in the confusion of the first couple days, but the local cops who were investigating never said that, and even made official statements that the “AR in the trunk” story was incorrect.
