Housewives and older people getting handgun permits

Kokomo — Whether its paranoia or people just wanting to be prepared, more and more people are arming themselves lately.

In the wake of the school massacre in Newtown, Conn., President Barack Obama proposed a package that includes banning assault weapons, requiring background checks on all firearms purchases and limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.

Those proposed changes have resulted in an upsurge of people wanting to arm themselves, officials say.

But the numbers tell the story.

In January, the Howard County Sheriff’s Department processed 151 handgun permits compared to 34 last January. In Miami County, the request for permits surged from 40 in November to 108 in December.

I especially like this part.....

And when it comes to who’s seeking permits, it’s a variety of people.

“We’ve seen a lot of housewives and older people apply for permits,” she said. “We had an 83-year-old woman recently apply for a lifetime permit.”

I wonder why some people find it surprising that our “seasoned” citizens and housewives would want to protect themselves? Do they think that somehow a little snow on the roof or a stay at home lady is too stupid to learn how to properly use a gun? Of course, it does give more meaning to meatloaf night... “do you feel lucky, punk? Say something bad about my meatloaf.. I dare ya”. LOL!

My wife has had a pistol for years.

She knows how to use it also.

In Wyoming you don’t need any permit.

All of the females in my immediate & extended family are armed.
Every other year or so, I get a bunch of the purse-sized pepper spray canisters for 'stocking-stuffers',
for all my family fems, for when they cannot conveniently carry their pistols.
