Does anyone have a stupid Obama search bar at the bottom of their Free Republic pages?

Do NOT click on the redirect link at the source URL.

There is a symbol is a a blue box with a white "T" followed by these options on the bar:

Related: Barack Obama T-Shirts | Senator Barack Obama | Barrack Obama | Barack Obama's Campaign | Barack Obama News | Vote for Obama | and then a search bar with the magnifying glass symbol.

I'm behind a firewall and it isn't showing as a virus. But it is annoying as hell to see the dictator's name dominate an entire search bar whenever I pull up FreeRepublic.

Anybody else having this problem? Any idea on how to fix it.

Sorry for not responding sooner.

Hopefully you have already solved this problem.

I looked at your link, and basically it’s an ad for SPYBOT S&D. Meaning it’s someone trying to get you to use SS&D.

I don’t know what mix of anti-virus/etc programs you use, but you could download SS&D, use it, then remove it after it cleans up things.

Unless you are a very experienced user, you shouldn’t try to do the MANUAL REMOVAL process.

Continue to do a search (Google or whatever engine) for solving the problem. I have often had to go through dozens of solutions I found, sort out the (claimed) successful ones from the rest, and then try several before I find one that solves ‘all the problem’.

Using Spybot S&D (it’s free) seems to be a logical first step. Cleaning up your registry and cookies would be recommended (CCLEANER is good for that (and several other things) and is free.)

You haven’t mentioned whether you have a SYSTEM RESTORE CHECKPOINT that you could use to go back to.

There is a lot more I could suggest, but the above should be a good start.

Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try it but have been hesitant to do so without a specific recommendation because so many of these cures are sometimes worse than the diseases.

As I mentioned, this stupid bar does not seem to affect any site other than freerepublic.com.

Have you tried using UNINSTALL and removing YONTOO ?

REVO UNINSTALLER is much more thorough at removing pesky software, and is free.

Another suggestion is to use HIJACK THIS.

It is good at shutting down crapware.

I Googled some solutions.

https://www.google.com/search?q=removing+yontoo+toolbar&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-beta

First link seems valid. http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-yontoo-virus-and-uninstall-yontoo-layers-client-malware/
It suggests you use MALWAREBYTES which is a good suggestion. I have MALWAREBYTES on my PC.

I have found that one Anti-spyware program does not catch everything. I use THREE different programs.

You can remove YONTOO manually, but be careful and do a SYSTEM RESTORE just prior to starting to remove it, in case you make things worse. That way you can at least go back and start over.

Let me know how things turn out.

Here is another link that provided some very CLEAR, PRECISE, and fairly EASY instructions for removing YONTOO.

http://www.safebro.com/remove-yontoo-layers-client-virus

Remember, just because you have the problem in FIREFOX doesn’t mean that IE isn’t infected with it. All browsers get some of their initial setups from IE, and it can re-infect Firefox if you don’t bother removing YONTOO LAYERS from IE.
