Word For The Day, Wednesday, February 13, 2013-- irrefrangible

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

irrefrangible [ir-i-FRAN-juh-buhl]

hear it pronounced

adjective

1. not to be broken or violated; inviolable: an irrefrangible rule of etiquette.
2. incapable of being refracted.

Origin: This Baroque era word irrefrangible derives from a negation of the Latin root frangere meaning "to break," also the root of the word "fraction."

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

In any other nation a typical official like Eliav would find himself allied against the priests who insisted upon such irrefrangible law, and even he had begun to echo the warning voiced by liana Hacohen: "this Mickey Mouse crap." -- James A. Michener, The Source

But no, Kipling never forgets that Kim is an irrefrangible part of British India: the Great Game does go on, with Kim a part of it, no matter how many parables the lama fashions. -- Rudyard Kipling, Edward W. Said, "Introduction," Kim

Our Founding fathers created a Constitution that was supposed to be irrefrangible, and not subject to the whims of whoever happened to be in charge. That’s all gone now.

No pushing at the door please!

Ha! The Westminster irrefrangible rule is to continue to deny awards to Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers.

Explain to me how the breed champion of the Goldens, who probably beat out 150 competitors to get into the group ring, is less worthy than a Dandy Dinmont Terrier who got to the center ring by beating ONE other dog? Same goes for the Labradors. Makes you wonder why the Labs and the Goldens continue to enter?

I wonder how many other dogs Banana Joe beat?

I posted this pic yesterday in anticipation of last night's competition....loved it......beautiful pic. Remember the year the Beagle won? There is hope.

..and I thought the shaggy hair on Banana Joe was enough to eliminate him. Looked like he needed a trim. Strange.

Obama has broken every irrefrangible rule of Government.

And a feckless Congress allows him to do just that.

I thought these were irrefrangible with the demise of Marshall Fields, but apparently you can get them at Macys.

That was a nice Golden last night, although I didn’t think he was half as pretty as the one I just lost. :( Thanks for the picture.

Another irrefangible question is why do the Cockers get 3 chances to win, according to color, and the Labs (no matter the color) all have to compete against each other? Everyone who knows Labs knows that their personalities (and even their conformations) differ by color.

Labs, Goldens and Griffs...the Susan Lucci’s of breeds...deserving but never to win Best in Show. Personally I think winning best in show does not always portend good things for the breed. I love my Wirehaired Pointing Griffs for what they are, not how popular they are.

Woof woof

To democrats, the only irrefrangible rule is that government must always grow more and more powerful and intrusive. Any lie, any tactic, or any action that furthers this goal is always justified.

In Fantasyland, none of the 29 new spending programs proposed by obama would add a single dime to the deficit
