Word For The Day, Wednesday, February 13, 2013-- irrefrangible

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

irrefrangible [ir-i-FRAN-juh-buhl]

hear it pronounced

adjective

1. not to be broken or violated; inviolable: an irrefrangible rule of etiquette.
2. incapable of being refracted.

Origin: This Baroque era word irrefrangible derives from a negation of the Latin root frangere meaning "to break," also the root of the word "fraction."

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

In any other nation a typical official like Eliav would find himself allied against the priests who insisted upon such irrefrangible law, and even he had begun to echo the warning voiced by liana Hacohen: "this Mickey Mouse crap." -- James A. Michener, The Source

But no, Kipling never forgets that Kim is an irrefrangible part of British India: the Great Game does go on, with Kim a part of it, no matter how many parables the lama fashions. -- Rudyard Kipling, Edward W. Said, "Introduction," Kim

What I didn’t like was the maid of honor was so self involved she couldn’t even be happy for her best friend. She was rude and childish and was too old to be unable to do anything for herself. My daughter loved the movie too

It does make more sense with the link, but I figured out to whom you were referring.

Thank you! I found that movie to be whiny and childish too.

The prosecution rests.

not saying i liked the people in it, but i did have a huge soft spot for the Irish cop, he was adorbs too! there were just so many hilarious parts. when Megan had the talk with the Maid of Honor after the shower, etc. I think that actress is hilarious. the chubby one. she’s supposed to be in something this spring with Sandra Bullock.
and i cop to a childish and immature sense of humor, truthy! i am self aware! i have often described my humor as the equivalent of a preteen boy. can’t help it.

knows that their personalities (and even their conformations) differ by color.

That's racist! ;-)

There were a few good lines in the movie, but too much wretched excess. The fight over the microphone as the two closest friends of the bride sought to “outfriend” the other might have been cute with one or two mike grabs. I think there were eight.

Well, I looked it up: Golden Retrievers were the highest entry breed with 61. Other top entries include Labradors with 54 and Rhodesian Ridgebacks with 50.

Presumably Cody (the winning Golden) was the BEST of 61 entries. How is that fair compared to the Dandy Dinmont who was the best of 2?

BTW, I didn’t know there were 50 Rhoddesian Ridgebacks in the whole country!

O’dowd is his name. He played a part in HBO’s “Girls” as the brief husband of one of the flighty ones.

The show is often like watching a train wreck (that is, the characters make horrendous decisions which is what 20 somethings do), but it has its humorous moments and is interesting.

Speaking of childish, I can’t help it but when I see SOTU listed before the president, my brain sees “shut the f#*% up” instead of state of the union. Is it just me?

One of Bridesmaids stars (the fat one) went on to star in a movie about competitive college glee clubs. (Can’t remember the name.) That was truly awful, relying mostly on projectile vomiting and bullying your sorority and fraternity friends. Lots of simulated sex too. I can’t believe that it scored a PG13 rating. Should have been an X in my opinion.

Must fry your bacon every day to have your kith and kin in such schools. My husband and I are both UC Berkeley alums, and we were never subjected to such bias from our profs. Of course, that was a LONG time ago.

my oldest went to the U of Dallas, a small authentically catholic and conservative school because that was important to her. my son is very conservative and far too smart and well informed to be influenced by the effluvia that flows out of the mouths of the profs at Syracuse. My husband is a Syracuse alum, both undergrad and law school, and my son has followed SU sports since he wore a onesie and slept in a crib, so it was no surprise that that's where he wanted to go to school. Their IT school is excellent, and while it's very pricey, we think he will get a decent job when he graduates.

Honestly, i have no truck with those who moan about people sending their kids to "government" schools or other liberal schools, if you are doing your job right as a conservative parent, it shouldn't matter where they go to school. YOU are the primary educators of your children and educating them in conservative thinking is every bit as important as the academic subjects. My kids have always been able to come home and tell us about some ridic thing that their teacher said. In fact, xsbaby when she was in 2d or third grade came home and reported that her teacher was probably a liberal. She had taken in our Bill Clinton and John Kerry dogtoys and the teacher asked why we didn't have a BUSH chew toy. I also recall the time they came back from a field trip to the Capitol building and xsbaby came running to the car at pick up to say hey mom we saw MRS BUBBA in the Capitol. I LMAO.

Should have said “is there some other type of Obama speech?” or “ I guess you can’t afford a proper white noise generator?”

I don’t know what that thing is, but it is not my idea of a real dog-it looks like some alien’s pet from a scifi movie.

Anything that someone calls a “dog” can win a show these days...
