Wish i could join you in NYC. I had drill the weekend they had it here in Houston. I met them at the first Toughmudder in Texas. My wife REALLY wanted to do it, but had to watch the boys since I was out of town.

Let us know how it goes!

Interesting twist on the enduro racing scene, but you couldn’t pay me enough to submerge my body in the East River.

Also, those GR2 ruck sacks are crazy heavy and expensive, a 40L pack that weighs Weight: 5.30 lbs (2.40 kg) and costs $395 ?

It has no practical field use and is missing standard options in that price range. Especially those shoulder straps, they’re 5 years out of date for high end gear.

As a fashion statement, sure thing.

I got the GR1 and they discount it 20 percent if you sigh up for an event.

Nothing against the bag, it’s just heavy, using the 1000D or 1050D Cordura for an around the town backpack is overkill,

A 26L pack in the high end gear category shouldn’t weigh more than 18 ounces. Anything after that is dead weight.

IF you really get into it, some of the Crossfit clubs/gyms doing your race will be doing a “Spartan race” I signed up for, Sept 7th, http://www.spartanrace.com/tristate-new-jersey-obstacle-racing-super-spartan-2013.html
There will be a Spartan Hurricane Heat night run, which will grind you to a pulp,

Difference for me is I do not like hiking on flatlands, Spartan Race is held at Mountain Creek ski resort and has nice elevation gain.

IF you need to carry those bricks, thru hikers regularly use trash compactor bags, in your case I’d double it up or put a few bricks in each of two bags, instead of paying $80 for a Cordura + Molle bag.

Good luck to you, I hike through the Tuxedo location several times a year, beautiful spot to race.

I do the equivalent of that Tuxedo race at least twice a week, it’s why the flatland races don’t interest me much. You make me jog 20 miles through Manhattan with a 40lb pack and I’m stopping for every ethnic food I see on the way.

Why not do the Tuxedo race w me? We have so far a team of 8 guys and gals for June 12:30 heat.

FYI - since the passage of ObamaCare, my goal is to get myself in the best possible shape and these events are good motivation for me.

GoRuck seems like a real challenge. I have Maxpedition bags and love them, just that this company and the story behind it, and what they are trying to do really imporesses me.

No offense, and I’m glad you can do the 8-9 miles for the Spartan Run. The Challenge is the second in a line of four offerings, the tougher two being GoRuck Heavy (24+ hours) and GoRuck Selection (48+ hours). GoRuck also has land nav courses, firearms courses, etc. etc. etc.

You can do GoRuck Challenge without their packs. You can’t do GoRuck Challenge without the bricks in your pack. Spartan Run isn’t an equivalent challenge. I’m not saying it’s not great that you’re fit enough to do it, because I think that’s awesome. However, getting into GoRuck is a step up, not down, and is not an equivalent alternative.
