The REAL Valentines Day!
original content | Feb 14, 2013 | By Laz A. Mataz

I wrote this on Facebook, but it got so many responses,I thought to repost it here.

Just in case any of you get too mushy about Valentines Day:

St. Valentinus was a Roman priest martyred during the reign of Claudius II, known as Claudius Gothicus. He was arrested and imprisoned upon being caught marrying Christian couples and otherwise aiding Christians who were at the time being persecuted by Claudius in Rome. Claudius took a liking to this prisoner – until Valentinus tried to convert the Emperor – whereupon this priest was condemned to death. He was beaten with clubs and stones; when that failed to kill him, he was beheaded outside the Flaminian Gate.

So Valentines Day – to properly revere the Saint -- should be celebrated by beating your loved one with clubs and stones, then beheading them.

Now for the rest of the story...........

http://www.americanminute.com/

“In the 3rd century, Emperor Claudius II was faced with defending the Roman Empire from the invading Goths.

He believed men who were not married made better soldiers so he forced the military to ban traditional marriage.

He also forced the Senate to deify the former Emperor Gallienus, including him with the Roman gods to be worshiped.

The ten major persecutions of Christians in the first three centuries rendered historical records scarce, but the legend is that Saint Valentine was a priest or bishop in Italy.

When the Emperor demanded the Church violate its conscience and worship pagan idols, Bishop Valentine refused to comply.

Valentine risked the Emperor’s wrath by standing up for traditional marriage, and secretly marrying young men and women.

Saint Valentine was arrested, dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and then have his head cut off on FEBRUARY 14, 269AD......”

Marrying Christians, preaching to the leader....if he were alive today, Obongo would treat him to a Homeland Security investigation and a lifetime of audits.

He believed men who were not married made better soldiers so he forced the military to ban traditional marriage.

As opposed to Augustus, who heavily fined or exiled Roman aristocratic men who didn't marry.

They were incapable of beating someone to death? Were the clubs and stones styrofoam Hollywood props?

Divine intervention. God often performed miracles during the martyrdom of saints like this.
