This Valentines Day, Dorrie Aber-Noyek is getting a lot of love at Memorial Regional Hospital as she celebrates her 106th birthday.
I think its really wonderful! she said.
To share in the celebration, her daughter and granddaughter both flew down from Canada.
"She inspires us, shes a very wise woman. Shes a very giving woman, and she has the most beautiful smile. And the smile is what identifies her and everyone responds to her," said her daughter Audrey Steinhauer.
Aber-Noyek has been walking the halls and volunteering at memorial regional hospital for almost 40 years and many of her collogues say her work ethic and dedication is infectious.
Margret Groeninger has been volunteering with Dorrie for 12 years.
She's been a joy to be with. Shes kind and gentle. She walks straight and always does a wonderful job, Groeninger said.
At her age shes been able to do a wonderful job because she loves to exercise by walking, but she says its the volunteering that keeps her feeling young.
Because Im busy. You cant think of anything else but what youre doing, Aber-Noyek said.
This birthday girl has been labeling and delivering mail at the hospital for decades, but long before World War II shes always enjoyed giving her time.
I dont know. Its a part of me that I want to give back what I receive. I feel that the community gives a lot to me, and I want to return it. Thats really the reason, she said.
She looks so much younger. It pays to stay busy.
You’re right!
I’ve seen a lot of 70 yr olds that look older than she does.
