Reminds me of:

They Shoot Horses, Don't They?

1935 story about a dance marathon during the Great Depression. 1969 film.

You must have missed Family Hour - where the families come out and thank the students for their cancer free children.

Some kids are cured. Not all.

Some money PSU raises ends up going to some parents whose kids were cure. A good cause.

Pediatric cancer, however, is still here. If it were “cured” they would all survive. Still, we can be very thankful many are cured.

My understanding of the THON process is that PSU kids stand on corners and solicit money from the rest of us... then they go to dance.

It would appear it is also none PSU donors who are curing some pediatric cancer patients.

I suppose the fundamental question we should be asking is, would this $12.4M be available to the families of children with pediatric cancer if not for the collective effort of these students? I know what I think, and instead of getting into an argument I guess each person will make their own judgment.

Hey, I think raising money to help families is great. Not sure what dancing has to do with it, since the money is raised before the dance - at least around my parts.

Still, my original comment was the pediatric cancer is not cured. If it were, we wouldn’t still be raising money to cure it.

Carry on. Go Blue.

I used the word “curing” - meaning we are moving forward. There is no cure - yet.

No worries though. No one can dampen this moment for me right now. This takes the total donations from THON since 1977 to over $100 million - for a charity that uses less than 4% on administration costs.

It’s time to celebrate and then get back to work next week on 2014!

I really think PSU’s student body is amazing and unique. They discourage me with their liberalism. They sometimes surprise me with their conservatism.

They just show up though. In numbers that astound. You tell them they can’t do something - you may as well consider it done.

Donations up until noon today went towards the 2013 total. Also, if you'd take the time or consideration to view any of the THON videos - especially the documentary Why We Dance - The Story of THON, you'd realize that the Dance Marathon itself is billed as a "Party - a Celebration of Life".
