A former Ms. Washington pageant winner was sentenced Friday in Coupeville to four years in prison for her role in a Whidbey Island murder.
Peggy Sue Thomas, 47, pleaded guilty in January to rendering criminal assistance. Island County prosecutors originally had charged her with first-degree murder.
Thomas was accused of plotting with her boyfriend, James Huden, to kill a man named Russ Douglas, who was found shot to death in a car on Whidbey Island two days after Christmas in 2003. Prosecutors say she lured Douglas to the spot where he was killed.
After the killing, Thomas went to live on a houseboat on Navajo Lake near Farmington, N.M. She was arrested there in 2011 and charged with murder.
The victim's father, Jim Douglas, said at Friday's hearing that he believed Thomas' sentence was not long enough to fit the crime.
"It seems like a travesty of the basic sense of justice that she would be sentecned to less than four years in prison for the cold and premeditated act that could not have happened without her involvement," said Douglas.
Gail O'Neal, the mother of victim, urged Thomas to tell the family what happened on the night of her son's murder.
"You and Jim Huden are going to be sitting in prison cells reflecting on all of this. And I hope that if you ever get the guts to tell, that you can call me and tell me exactly what happened, because we are mothers," O'Neal said.
The judge also gave Thomas an opportunity to come clean about the murder. But she refused.
Huden was convicted last summer of murder and sentenced to 80 years in prison.
Thomas, a former hairdresser, had once worked at a salon owned by Douglas' wife. She won the Ms. Washington beauty pageant in 2000.

I was going to post a photo, but there’s really no point. Take my word for it, she’s guilty.
She was born in 1966 or so. Buddy Holly had been dead for 6-7 years.
Parents must have been big fans....
she and the guy she helped both got less time than the 16-year old who lured her boyfriend’s victim to his death... (saw an article on here this morning about whether or not the 16-year old, who is now 38, deserves life in prison)...
What gets me is James Huden had told his wife and best friend about the killing and they never reported it. Finally the best friend couldn't live with it anymore and told the authorities. His wife even helped him to hide in Mexico.
Her dewy beauty queen look has begun to show the ravages of evil. She looks like one hard conniving creature.

no--in the 16-year old's case, she and her boyfriend, the killer, both got life sentences... but in the ex-beauty-queen-as-bait case, that killer got 80 years...
i bet she cleans up nicely... her hair is in dire need of some styling... she has minimal make-up and she is wearing boring yucky oatmeal beige... and from what i can see of the clothes, which is very little, those look pretty darn boring too...
style her reddish brown hair--which is thick and looks to be full of body--give her an emerald green fitted dress, green and copper shadow, lipstick and 6-inch heels, and you will see, "not guilty" posts...
i google imaged her... she seems a bit hefty in some pics—probably at the time of her arrest... but i think s lot of freeper men like hefty gals... she seems to have lost weight according to the recent pic of her in court... jail can do that to you...

Saw her on Dateline Friday night. She was Ms. Washington (aka over age 35). Voluptuous figure and a man's woman.
But that was 10 years ago and a many hard years inbetween, so hard to say today how good she still cleans up (has good bones it appears).
What a stupid headline. She won the beauty pageant 13 years ago, and the murder is not connected in any way to the pageant.
