Downton Abbey, could we have a thread where somebody would explain what is going on?

Is there a place where we could "catch up" with the goings on?

Like who is messing who up?

Historical references?

Maybe on FR?

Downton Abbey is a brilliantly written drama regarding the life of those that live upstairs: the owners of Downton and the downstairs help (The Butler, Footmen, Valet). There are multiple story lines that also tell of true incidents of the real owners of Highclere Castle the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon.

Once you start you will get hooked. As for the story line, it is a lot like the real owners, so whether you agree with the history or not, the plot and development of characters throughout the years 1912 or so through the 30s, its riviting and has a bit of history. Maggie Smith is fabulous.

I dont know why you would turn it off. It’s a story line and people deal with homosexuality in many ways. Lord Grantham did his best to deal fairly with people of every position. You were wrong in your assessment and I think if you watched you would find this out. If you wanted the man flogged, well that is not going to happen because we dont do that.

PBS is coming out with very good alternatives to today reality garbage:

Wait a minute. I thought season 3 of Justified had just begun? I still need to see the last 2 episodes of season 2 but had to return them to the library and now I’m at least a month away from checking it out again.

It seemed out of place. Historically inaccurate, but for the Lord’s comment about what happened at his boys’ school on a regular basis. I hardly believe that the Brits were THAT tolerant.
