When China - Japan goes hot the so called free trade bull crap comes to an end. In the mean time all of out unemployed factory workers will have to continue their medical training.
By the way, we don’t have “free trade” with either China or Japan.

America is no longer the world’s leading exporter.
That is the beginning of the end, if we continue to do things the way we are now.
I am not saying what we should do, except it should be significantly different from what we have done.
We need production of all sorts.
Most importantly we need a trade BALANCE.
China is simply flooding our markets. Making sophisticated aerospace and military production facilities all while running a huge trade surplus with the United States.
That is a fatal scenario for America.
We need to change. How is up to discussion, but right now we are plunging very quickly, to some sort of very bad place.

Michele Bachmann has some good ideas on spurring investment in America. If I recall correctly it involved zeroing out the tax rate on new investments until the company was effectively turning a real profit then not allowing them to be taxed above 12%.
Lots of carrot and little in the way of stick.

96% of the private sector is non union. It is protectionism for them not just for unions. The USA ran on tariffs for 80 years upon its founding. The income tax replaced tariffs, so are you pro 16th amendment?

I agree with “bankruptcy and spending”. I disagree with “import”.
The trade deficit is about 500 billion a year. The budget deficit is about 1,000 billion a year. Frankly, if you take the net contributions that blacks make to america and delete them from the statistics, we are as good as anyone.
As I recall, Reagan protected our inefficient steel industry so they could remain inefficient (not his intent, perhaps), which they did.
Yeah that’s the ticket! While we are adding 6,000 new regulations a month and the dems are talking about tax increases on corporations.
So, as a solution to a problem caused by government intrusion, you advocate more government intrusion that will increase the costs to the consumer.
How about corporate tax reductions and the elimination of thousands of regulations?
You are aware that the Tariff Act of 1790 was initially defeated by the first Congress and only went into effect when Madison tacked it on to a Cotton trade act with the Louisiana territory. It then was over-turned around 1817 as it didn’t have the impact they wanted and hurt many of our exporting states (such as getting a retaliatory 100% import tax by the UK on all brown sugar from the US to the UK).
I would suggest reading Examination of A Tract on the Alteration of the Tariff, by Thomas Cooper written in 1824.

Sure we have to bring down government interference.
I agree 100%. But that already has discussions. Trade seems however to be an issue nobody is willing to discuss.
So I’m discussing it.
Actually I was thinking of Harley Davison and Reagan’s import tariffs on Japanese made bikes above a certain size. Harley pulled out of its mess and Japanese makers came here to get around the tariff.
Again, they were very specifically targeted tariffs.
We live in a global economy. Deal with it. As long as we have high union labor costs china, vietnam and other countries will contnue to make our stuff. I see our labor costs going up not down. I dont think we can compete for manufacturing jobs and a hearty “Hell no” to more import taxes that are just passed on to us.
