To: Stonewall Jackson

The U.S.S. Amberjack was in the area and watched the attack from the periscope. The skipper at the time was Cmdr. August Hubal.

I served with Cmdr. Hubal prior to his skippering the Amberjack. He was a stand-up guy and I do not believe that he would lie. However, some of his crew do not agree with his comments on the matter.

Very interesting. I’d never heard about a sub being in the area. Sadly, we will probably never learn the whole truth of what happened that day; was it truly a horrific amalgam of errors on the part of both the US and Israel, or was there something more sinister at work? As Churchill once said about Russia, “It is a riddle, wrapped in mystery, inside an enigma.”
