Abolish the Department of Education
Spectator ^ | 2-26 | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 02/26/2013 11:33:45 AM PST by ExxonPatrolUs

How did the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania get along from the beginning of the Republic in 1787 until 1978 — 191 years — and yet manage to educate its kids without the existence of the U.S. Department of Education? And, being one who is a graduate of both a Pennsylvania public high school and a Pennsylvania private college (Franklin and Marshall College, as it happens, dates from 1787) — how did the Commonwealth manage to educate the bulk of those kids well? Kids from all economic backgrounds, all races and both genders?

The response will surely come — as it does with every proposal to eliminate anything large or small in the federal government — that the Department of Education is, don’t you know, indispensable. That the $68.1 billion budget for the federal Education Department (not to mention the 5,000 federal employees it has gained as the Cabinet’s smallest (!) department) is critical to educating America’s kids — and without it the nation will collapse.

What’s going here in this sequester discussion is precisely what our friend Mark Levin has discussed in his bestseller Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America.

The real reason for the existence of the U.S. Department of Education is, to borrow from Levin, “the perfectability of mankind” — in this case through the establishment of a federal educational Leviathan. Without it, perfection cannot possibly be attained.

Good Move. Get rid of Department of Energy Department and health and Human services too. While we are at it dump the EPA.

Problem is that many GOP love Big Government education.....your tax dollars going to private and charter schools

Also the two biggest Globalist Socialist education bills passed in the last two decades were by GOP presidents....Bush 41 with “Goals 2000” and Bush 43 with “No Child Left Behind”

Note that no GOP leader has endorsed Homeschooling....because the GOP does not want to do away with Big Government Education

I do not even hear GOP Media endorse Homeschooling....outside of Christian media and Free Republic....there is little discussion of Homeschooling.

Works for me to get rid of it. We have only seen our children’s education descend into illiteracy since it has come into being.

Doing away with the Education Dept would more than take care of the Sequester $ and still leave people in place to sweep it out and take the trash away. Already suggested it to my Congressman.

In 2010, Barack Obama called for fixing the public education system by giving us the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and “Race to the Top,”

which he said would fix the education system already fixed by the 2001 GW Bush and Ted Kennedy legislation called “No Child Left Behind,”

which was supposed to fix a system supposedly already fixed by a 1994 piece of federal legislation called “Goals 2000,”

which was supposed to fix a system already fixed by “America 2000,”

which was a 1991 response during the Bush administration to a 1983 federal report on education called “A Nation at Risk,

which was published a full four years after Jimmy Carter first fixed the nation’s public school system by establishing a cabinet-level Department of Education in 1979.

The real damage-—forced nationally by the evil Jimmy Carter-—was started with the “philosophy” of the Father of Modern Education (indoctrination into Moral Relativism—the “kill God” group to destroy Christian Ethics). The patron saint of Lucifer is John Dewey.

We need to burn the curricula-—it is bathed in Behaviorism and “Group Think” to destroy individualism—and to create mass conformity (collectivism).

The worldview was subtle in 1930’s-—the Fabian Socialists had to hide their goals from parents who were profoundly Christian and would have rejected his religion of Atheism being forced into the worldview of children. The Atheists on the court forced their faith though force of Laws in the 50’s.

Dewey designed a system to destroy Virtue-—to destroy Classical Wisdom and Natural Laws (God’s Design) (filled with morality and the Bible) and replace it with moral relativism where “urges” determine Good and Evil and the belief in God is mocked and marginalized-—beat out of the minds of children. Since the 70’s-—this mocking of God was put into most Hollywood shows to reinforce the Atheism/Satanism.

I was a coal mine manager when Cahtah was kicked out of office.
I can't tell you how pleased we were with that outcome.

I think I know. I remember those days well. I was driving a Gordon’s Potato Chip truck and going to night school on the GI Bill. The small distributing company I worked for was struggling to find gas for our trucks and keep them on the road. Carter and his BS was screwing us bad.

The Taiwanese public school system seems to be effective, but it could never be adopted for US schools. That is one of the problems with US schools.

The system is so big and inflexible, that fixing it is nearly impossible. Nobody is responsible for anything because teachers, principals, administrators, etc are just following rules and regulations. They have no freedom to change for the better even if they tried.

The only way to really fix US public education is to just let it fail. Parents should be given vouchers to allow them to exit the public school system. Parents can easily identify better schools.

I was in school (and made damned sure I stayed) when all the hell was going on in SE Asia. My folks were military. Dad was a Hump Pilot in the CBI and was a civilian Army purchasing agent in Japan where we lived and where I grew up, 1951-1961.
In 1958-59 I visited Laos a couple of times (changed planes in Bangkok) where Dad was going to build a paper mill for International Paper. A heart condition put that adventure on more or less permanent hold. After ten years in Asia, I wanted to go back stateside and we did, finally when I was 13 years old.
