Not at all clear whether he used shotgun or .22 pistol.
Or both?

Maybe a .22 caliber shotgun. It’s California, after all.

This is hilarious... The website has a graphic entitled "SHOOTING".. Shouldn't it say "Pitt Bull Attack"??
Why isn't this woman identified by name? Was she an avid 'Anti-Gun Advocate'??
I'll bet you she loves guns now.

Could have been an over/under .22/.410...
...whatever, way to go...this is a nightmare for all who walk, ride bikes, etc.
..I see people walking these dogs all the time, and i am aways ready for attack. Some of the dogs are being handled by little women, the dog sometimes weighs more.

One of them latched onto the horses upper leg and locked on. She (the rider) suffered a few scrapes, Vega said.

He should have fired two shotgun blasts into the air or at least thru a door.

It’s obviously time to ban military style breeds of assault dogs.

He will be a police officer in a few weeks. Killing dogs is a requirement to be LEO these days.

And why the hell is anyone reported in the news as utilizing a firearm always “wielding” said firearm? Is that on page one of the Firearms Reporting chapter in the Journalist text book?

Dog attack check list.
1) Large and/or aggressive breed of dog? Yes, one of the most likely offenders - Pitt Bull.
2) Off leash, running free, >1 running free? Two of them, out on the town, looking for trouble.
3) Previous reports of violent behavior? Not known.
4) Unreasonable expectation of passivity from owner, often despite #3 above? Not known, but probable if the owner allowed them to regularly run free.

Interesting. Couple weeks back an aquaintance of the wife could have used a savior like that. 3 off leash pit bulls chased her horse into dumping her and it subsequently running into a park gate at full speed and killing itself...
This was over on Mt Diablo.
