A Gainesville man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the robbery at knifepoint of a convenience store on Feb. 21.
David Michael Sheppard, 31, of 3945 NW 27th Lane, was charged with armed robbery for the holdup at the Kangaroo convenience store at 4221 NW 16th Blvd., according to a Gainesville police arrest report.
Surveillance video shows the culprit got a 12-pack of beer and took it to the counter. He pulled out a knife and demanded the clerk give him money. He took the cash and left the store with the money and the beer.
The arrest report states that Sheppards mother was shown surveillance photos and told police the robber was her son, adding that she recognized his shirt as one that she bought for him.
Also interviewed was Sheppards roommate, who told police that she drove him to the Kangaroo for beer and that he returned to the car with it.
WHO loves ya’ Baby?
NOT your ma!!!!!
Good for her......
Dang. that’s just down the road from my daughter.
certainly beats stories where he is killed in a robbery and she wants the self-defender arrested and his neighbors all come out and say he was such a good boy....
Next Thanksgiving will be ... awkward.
Awesome. These people are practically my neighbors. I buy gas at that Kangaroo station every week. Poor mom, what a position to be in, to i.d. your own child as a criminal.
A good mother, because she saved her son’s life, even if it meant his going to prison.
He risked his life to steal a six pack of beer. If that’s all he ever did, how many six packs would he steal in the future before he was shot to death?
Or if things went bad and he stabbed someone, injuring or killing them, he could end up in prison for the rest of his life, instead of for just a year or two.
I couldn’t have said it better. I just want to hug that woman.
i applaud mom- my kids all know they would WISH i turned them in rather than get my hands on them if they did something like this
This happened in Gainesville, Florida. Gainesville is named for Gen. Edmund Gaines, a son-in-law of William Blount, one of the North Carolina delegates to the Constitutional Convention and later one of the first US Senators from Tennessee, who was expelled from the Senate in 1797 for his role in the Blount Conspiracy (which seems to have had as its objective to help the British take New Orleans away from Spain, to ensure that Tennesseans would have freedom of navigation on the Mississippi River. When Blount got back to Tennessee after being kicked out of the Senate, he was treated as a hero.
If David had just been quietly reading a history book instead of robbing a convenience store, he wouldn't find himself in the slammer.
