Does anybody know of a way to stop The Drudge Report website from automatically reloading every few minutes? It's annoying and slows down the computer for other tasks.

Usually I just close that Tab and reload when I want to, but that is annoying as well.........

I guess it depends on the browser. Here's how to change options in Firefox:

Stop and Disable web pages auto refresh...

If you use IE, go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level button, then disable “Allow Meta Refresh”.

I use NoScript. I usually disables server-side scripts and that should stop the reloading.

I suspect you will find the solution to be all or nothing which means that you would lose updates on weather pages.

That might or might not be a consideration, depending on how interested you are in weather updates.

Once the page loads the first time, hit esc. If you go to a link, do this again when you return to Drudge, after it loads again.

This works w/cbslocal, as well.

How do you think Deudge gets a gazillion ‘hits’ on his website? Every time the page refreshes, it’s a new hit...and every time you click a link and click back it’s a new ‘hit’. It’s what keeps Drudge’s numbers up.

Every time the page refreshes, it’s a new hit.
Hits also includes "assets" on a page, like images. If a page loads with ten images on it, that's eleven hits.

• Visit - Is someone who comes to your Web site and looks around a bit.
  They may go to one page or they may go to 100 pages, but they're still only visiting once.
  
  
• View - Is how many pages were seen by that visit.
  
  
• Hit - Is how many physical resources were requested from the server by that visit.
  Pages are made up of many items (images, text, etc). Each of those is a hit, while a view is the page itself.

BTW, I’ve tried the recommended “solutions” in firefox for blocking auto-refresh and they broke a very large percentage of the other web pages I used because many of those pages need to refresh very occasionally, say in response to an input, and they were unable to refresh at all.

It’s too bad we couldn’t get Drudge to quit doing that and get Free Republic to automatically refresh.

Thanks man, That (sort of) helps. But now Drudge refreshes whenever I click on the Drudge tab (I presume only if it has had a meta refresh request while I was away.) Any idea of how to stop that? Thanks, NPS

I had to close FF then restart for the new settings to take effect..........
