George Lucas Says 'Star Wars' Returns for Hamill, Ford and Fisher Almost Finalized

Another day, another Star Wars rumor -- though this one is more trustworthy than most.

In a new profile in Bloomberg Businessweek, George Lucas and Disney executives discuss the long road that led to the purchase of Lucasfilm in October. Of particular interest for fans of the movies is the fact that Lucas confirms that he had begun talks with original Star Wars stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to have them return to the franchise for its new films -- before he had even begun the process of the corporate offloading.

"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison -- or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation," Lucas told the magazine. "So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.' Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-dee-doo, but we were negotiating with them. … I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not."

Mark Hamill is the definitive voice of the Joker. He's recently retired from that particular gig, but he's very well-known for it.

He also played the lead role in "Wing Commander III" and "Wing Commander IV" which were some of the earliest big-budget PC CD-ROM games to be filmed as movies. He was actually very good in those, too.

Ford is the only one who remembers what its like to act.

I beg your pardon. "Corvette Summer" - maybe the single greatest film in history. It makes "Stage Coach" and "Battleship Potemkin" look like utter dreck in comparison. Only Hammill could have given such a once in a century performance.

He was also in "The Big Red One", unfortunately overshadowed by the incomparable Lee Marvin. And, um, some other guys that played characters in his squad.

Decent Flick, though.

She’s 56. Very few women look the same at 56 as they did at 26, even with surgical makeovers.

Harrison Ford looks good, but I wish he’d lose that silly earring.

and Carrie Fisher is by no means fat

She has not aged well, though. That is an issue for women actors.

Particularly women actors whose audience remembers them looking like this:
