I don’t know if you can ever generalize like this. I don’t think most rock musicians from the Hippie era worshiped Eastern religions or Satan. Sure, some dabbled in it as something new but hardly any were serious about it. And keep in mind that one of the Hippie Heroes — Dennis Hopper — was Republican.

.
The word was “many,” not most, and the statement was quite accurate.
Dennis Hopper endorsed Barack Hussein Obama.

One of Hollywood’s few Republicans has switched his vote. Dennis Hopper, 72, told reporters in France that he’s praying for an Obama victory, despite decades as a Bush supporter.
“I voted for Bush, father and son, but this time I’ll vote for Obama,” he told journalists at the opening of a show on his life and work.
“I was the first person in my family to have been Republican,” he added. “For most of my life I wasn’t on the left.”
“I pray God, Barack Obama is elected,” he said, calling the current administration’s many “lies.”

We were a little surprised to find out a while ago that actor Dennis Hopper is a longtime Republican sure, he appeared in the right-wing satire An American Carol, but so, too, did he make Meet the Deedles. Today, though, during a hushed, absorbing two-and-a-half minute monologue on The View, Hopper detailed the Jefferson-led conversion that led him to become a Reagan Republican, as well as a deeply personal story that eventually led to his unlikely presidential vote for Barack Obama. If this clip somehow ends up getting taped over the “Crash series” part of Hopper’s reel, we can’t say we’ll be surprised.
