Windows 8 is a dog.

But for newbies who are buying their first PC and have had no experience with 98/XP/7, they will probably have no Win8 complaints as they will lack anything to compare to.

They will be like someone who was raised on nothing but mush. “Oh, boy! Mush again! Yum!”

Not knowing there is anything better.

Actually the interface is designed for the user to transition between devices and for constant internet connectivity. Its designed for people with ADHD in other words.

Windows 8 and windows 7 are functionally very similar. They added the new front end that works across pc platforms and mobile devices and touch screen functions . I don’t have any machines running 8 but I have read that there are ways to bypass the metro start up screen and third party software to replace it.

I don't know. Mrs p6 bought a new laptop last month and it came with W8. She uses XP at work and we have XP at home as well as s Linux box and Android tablets and phones. We've been through most versions of Windows since 3.1 so she has seen a lot of different operating systems.

So far her least favorite is Ubuntu. When she got W8 she had a cow but after a couple of weeks she really liked it. Although she usually has it in XP desktop she does use the Metro desktop too.

When I build my next machine I'll most likely go with W8.

BTW my fav OS is still the OLD Tandy Deskmate. Wish they had kept developing it.
