In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
indite \in-DAHYT\, verb
1. to compose or write, as a poem.
2. to treat in a literary composition.
3. Obsolete. to dictate.
4. Obsolete. to prescribe.
Example sentences:
"Will it be any harm," he said to his friends, "in a piece you want to be written so low, if we should teach them how they should think and act in common cases, as well as indite?"
-- Samuel Richardson, A Quiet Corner in a Library, 1915
And then she called her father Sir Barnard and her brother Sir Tirry, and heartily she prayed her father that her brother might write a letter like as she did indite; and so her father granted her.
-- Sir Thomas Malory, Le Morte D'arthur, 1470
Etymology:
Appearing in English in the mid-1300s, this wordy word comes from the Latin root dictare meaning "to declare, dictate, or compose in words." Combined with the prefix in-, indite literally means "to put down in writing."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
excellent, truthy!! J of you being down in the big D. I miss visting Dallas.
I think his view of social justice is more along the Book of James’ explanations than the SPLC.
As Dennis Miller has frequently stated, it’s not the color of his skin, it’s the thinness of it that annoys me.
A+ for you! It’s in the 20s here and I am HATING it. C’mon Spring!
“Social justice” was and is a perfectly fine Catholic idea. Its corruption for progressive ends simply makes it like so much of everything else that has been corrupted for progressive ends.
Interesting that NR had a posting that the pope once said nice things about dead Argentine soldiers on a commemoration of their attempt to take the Falklands. Like honoring a nation’s soldiers is something scandalous.
I have no problem with the color of Obama’s skin, except when any and all criticisms of his policies are attributed to racism. He has a melanin-aided Get Out of Jail Free card.
i saw some stuff on twitter trying to make something of that. good grief! i love that the prog Catholics will try to make much of his favoring social justice, but what do they then do about taking communion as pro-aborts?
Did you know he worked as a chemist prior to entering the priesthood?
You should be Indited for that....
Just like when they toss something out on Twitter and get called on their ineptness, they attribute everything to racism and dismiss any relevant criticism. That is why I despise them. They have no argument and wave the racism banner on every topic.
No I didn’t, but I like the way he walks the walk on humility.
I have a “Never Been Indited” T-shirt left over from the Nixon Administration.
I know just the person who would love one of those shirts.
The Dems indite a budget to indict this nation with unpayable debt.
Indited w/Swiss cheese, Dijon mustard, on rye?
I watched it all on Fox. Shepherd was decent (for a change) and most of the commentary was from Megan kelly with lots of other commentators. This was all happening between 1 and 2 Central time. I was puttering around the house, trying to get much needed “maintenance” done because my husband is out of town. So, I was still in my PJs. I had been fielding calls from CA all morning about my mom. I was just heading to the showers to go into work and check on things there (although they only seem to need me for checks and for when the computers go down.)
I had been watching “Murder She Wrote” while puttering. As I hit my bedroom, Fox News Channel was still on the TV in my bedroom. I really have been taking a vacation from FNC since the disasterous election in November — hence “Murder She Wrote”, old “Rockford Files’, “Perry Mason”, “City Confidential”, etc. because I can’t bear the news from DC.
Megan and Shepherd said something about “white smoke”, and I stopped, dead in my tracks — transfixed. I didn’t dare go into the shower before they revealed the new Pope’s identity. I watched for over an hour before Francis stepped out on the balcony. I love him already. What a beautiful face!
Fox News mostly focused on the faces in the square, and they were a sight to behold. I’m sorry that you missed it.
BTW, I’m delighted that if this Pope couldn’t be Cardinal Dolan, he is still an American — a South American. I sort of enjoyed the shock from the US media — a little bit of a comeuppance that the USA is not the ONLY “America”. I imagine that the reaction would have been similar had they chosen the Canadian. LOL
It is 54 and mostly cloudy here, but Spring is not going to be early-we’ve had several nights below freezing this month-
Some of the driveby media pets
Are finally becoming offended
By the lying to their ranks
To which the emperor descended
I’ll indite this little verse
To ridicule their false cover-
They act as if it is personal
Just like some jilted lover
It is a shadenfreude moment
For all of us who dislike
The mindless Obama robots
Who swoon into their mik...
So, you voluntarily admit to watching “Murder, She Wrote”? ;-)
A friend of mine from South America was very gracious. he emailed me and said, so what do you think, we have an American Pope? I am sure South America went wild with this news.
