Word For The Day, March 19, 2013

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

obluctation [ob-noo-buh-leyt, -nyoo-]

-n
[Obs.] A struggle against; resistance; opposition.

[L. oblictutio, fr. obluctari to struggle against.]

I'm not a Methodist but that is a ridiculous statement. The "Reconciling" movement is a gay/lesbian/transgendered group that is pushing for gay inclusion in clergy within the Methodist Church. There are pocket groups all across the country but very small and not sanctioned by the United Methodist Church itself.

There may very well be issues within that denomination but to claim this group defines the entire Methodist Church across America is unfounded and wrong. It would be like someone claiming Joe Biden represents the Catholic Church, and we all know that isn't true.

I don’t think I said that. At least I didn’t mean to. My great grandparents on both sides of my family were founders of various Methodist congregations in various parts of the country. I know that they are all rolling in their graves at the direction that some Methodist congregations have taken in recent times. Certainly, Hillary (who has made a big deal about how Methodism inspired her public service) has taken a strange turn, but it is not the first time.

Regarding the North Caroina Methodist church that won’t do any more straight weddings until same sex weddings are legalized — read here:

Yes I did read about that congregation, I wouldn’t have commented had I not read about it. You implied that because of this one congregation perhaps there was something wrong with the entire denomination. Like I said, they may have some problems but the main body of the United Methodist Church has not changed their statement on gay clergy or marriage.

Ahh the GOP, when they win they “need” to shift Left. When the lose they need to shift Left.

I’m about ready to retreat to an underground bunker.

As the song says:

“Obluh-dee, Obluh-dah, Obluctat-ah,
Fa, La, La, La, Life Goes On…”

Back from erranjds-it is 74 and sunny-another cold front is supposed to come over the weekend, though...

Obama’s stubborn obluctation
On spending and budget cuts
Is parroted by his minions
To prove they all are nuts

They belittle all the warnings
And Obama plays golf instead
As they all ignore the iceberg
And spend, full speed ahead

The taxes won’t ever be enough
And there are no money elves-
Those who will survive the mess
Can look our for ourselves...

The two best attended churches out here are the Catholic one, (which I attend), and the Methodist one. The two churches cooperate on everything from game dinners and fish fries to auctions for charity, and even Christmas services.

The blanket approach is way off-maybe cities are different, but out here in the hinterlands, I can guarantee that no minister or priest of any religion, be it Catholic, Methodist, Jewish or Hindu would ever, ever perform a homosexual “marriage”, or preach in favor of it, period. The Methodists I know are not into political correctness, especially when there is no such thing as same sex “marriage”, because marriage is a sacrament...

Sorry I’m late to the party. Our internet provider was having major problems on Tuesday and I missed the Word For The Day that day.

Anyway, better late than never.

The People’s obluctation to Senator Feinstein’s unconstitutional gun grab finally paid off when Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, threw her proposal in the paper shredder.

Cheers!

P.S. - Thanks for the props!
