SIR Bob Geldof says the rock and roll age is dead.

The Boomtown Rats star and Live Aid icon said: "The central problem is, for us, rock and roll was a social medium.

"That period has passed because now there are many alternative social mediums. Rock and roll needs a context in which to exist.

"It doesn't exist anymore. It's ceased to be culturally relevant.

"The rock and roll age is dead, in my view.

He added: "I'm amazed it died. No-one expected that, but I'm lucky I jumped in halfway through it.''

Too bad disco isn’t dead either. Whether it is 70s or house music, it all is repetitive machination of sounds designed for drug fueled boinking.

I just got a Fakebook note from my favorite Brit band Phat Bollard, who don’t even care about having its CD released in the US (and it’s unavailable on Amazon.co.uk either), the note saying: “Bring out your change . We’ll be busking in Plymouth today.”

Dale Watson was a rock and roller (did the original Suzie Q, and later produced bands and kept performing until he died) who supported the troops and this nation.

Commies hated rock and roll (they pointed to “folk music” as the real music of the people). Then they subverted it. Then punk came along and poked fingers in the eyes of politically correct liberals. Then they subverted it.

Apart from gay anthems, no one looks to disco/house for “messages”.

Oh, there’s some garbage out there, a lot of it. But My point was there is NO hope of true cultural commentary from rock now.

Rap is awful, but it’s popular with the kids. They go for shock ad awe, as always. And they like classic rock a lot. Just nothing these guys are putting out now.

My group likes Jimi, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, (Def Leopard, and AC/DC no comment) for a few. They also appreciate Sinatra, Louis Prima, Dinah Washington.

I suppose you friend would be equally shocked at Lou Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side. I wonder how these two great songs (whatever you think of their content) managed to get played on the radio back in the day.

Have no idea what my business associate thought about the Wild Side. And he is a very wild and crazy kinda guy. Wild in the normal sense. He told me some of the stuff he was able to get away with in China. Almost did not want to come back. Apparently, if you have cash and are a man, you are king in Asia, baby.

For me, the Wild Side was obvious after a few listens. Yeah. The Kinks. They probably had to hide that crap back then. Wish they still did. Speaking of wishing, what about the Pink in Pink Floyd ? Which ones Pink ? Never quite got that.
