My guess this is do to a confluence of items: Pornography, Light sentencing, and decreased or eliminated moral standards at home and in schools.
In the case here, the girl was in a car with 3 boys, although she reportedly “only” performed oral sex on one of them.
I can’t even imagine this happening in my days in HS. If sex ever happened (and a couple of girls were pregnant at graduation — out of a class of 600) it would have been VERY private — certainly not a group activity!
A star player on my HS baseball team eloped with a cheerleader on graduation night and got married, to everyone’s shock. Everyone defended her against the rumors that she probably was pregnant until the baby was born in October. We just couldn’t imagine that the 2 of them had done such a thing.
The marriage lasted through 3 children, and then they divorced. She went on to head the local TV station and to be a business consultant. Nobody has ever heard of him again.
What has happened to the innocence of our children? I blame omnipresent sex themes in movies and on TV and easily available birth control. Plus a culture of entitlement that our children assume too easily.
