Word For The Day, Thursday, March 21, 2013 – discursive
dictionaries ad nauseam | 21 March 2013 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

discursive(dis-KUHR-siv) adjective
1. Jumping from topic to topic; rambling.
2. Proceeding logically, using reason or argument rather than emotion.

Example sentences:
"The book is discursive, gently meandering down the River Thames."
--Three Men In A Boat; Northern Echo (Darlington, UK); Sep 20, 2012.

"Obama's penchant for discursive explanations has bothered no constituency more than his base, whose members see in his sometimes professorial tone a lack of passion for the cause at hand."
--Scott Wilson; In Arguing for Firearms Restrictions, Obama Points to Constitution; The Washington Post; Jan 17, 2013.

Etymology:
From Latin discurrere (to run about), from dis- (apart) + currere (to run). Ultimately from the Indo-European root kers- (to run), which is also the source of car, career, carpenter, occur, discharge, succor, and caricature. Earliest documented use: 1599.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I came back from s few hours in the woods, turned on the TV to get news, saw Obama scamming the Israelis, turned on some music instead...

What clueless advisor told
Obama that he’d look cunning
Making discursive speeches
Just like a rabbit running

A dash right, a feint left
And references to events
That he knows nothing about
Don’t add up to making sense

But changing his tactics now
Would only look much worse-
He’s already branded a liar
And a con man, chapter and verse...

Sad but true. You get an A+ for demonstrating something discursive.

I saw that, then I got too busy...forgot about fixing it. Too much going on today. I did too much, now I suffer the pain.

We all should have known this was coming it’s a discursive route from taxes and land grabbing...now they just rob your bank accounts and cut you right out of the process. Time to hide our money in our mattresses again.

Thank you-I saw that the emperor’s visit to Israel isn’t going so peachy-he sounds almost schizophrenic in his speeches-nothing consistent but the annoying scolding that everyone always ignores.

And people wonder why a cash/barter economy is growing again. It used to be mostly rural people, illegals and the people who employ them-mostly small companies in labor intensive businesses. Not any more-plenty of people here will only work for cash, or even some barter. Money is safer in the Maxwell House Bank now...

Oh, the clip Rush played had him telling the youth of Israel that they need to make the change happen that they want...he got applause. I suspect he has a market for his old hope and change vaudeville act. Made me sick.

I’m pretty sure that the “change” the youth of Israel wants to make happen isn’t the same one Obama envisions...

My eldest son lives in San Jose....he hadn’t realized that SU would be playing there until a day before the event when we texted him. Boy, was he disappointed. He is a huge SU fan, as my father had played both SU football for Schwartzwalder and freshman basketball when he went there. My son looks like a combination of DH’s father and mine. His mannerisms and interests are exactly like my father’s who died when my son was 18 months old. I suspect that is his why he likes SU so much. Schwartzwalder used to take him around the locker room and introduce him to the current players. He would tell them that my dad played football for him, tell them about some of his big plays then tell them that he was a walkon on the football team and attended SU on a scholastic scholarship. All my male cousins told me about this, me being a girl I couldn’t go in back then.

OK, enough rambling....time to prep for class.
