Ohio question on term limits and Boehner

Posted on 03/24/2013 10:09:27 AM PDT by reed13k

Was just going through the Ohio Constitution and noted there is a limit to U.S. Congressional Representative terms as follows:

"No person shall hold the office of United States Representative from Ohio for a period longer than four successive terms of two years. Terms shall be considered successive unless separated by a period of four or more years. Only terms beginning on or after January 1, 1993 shall be considered in determining an individual’s eligibility to hold office."

On Boehner's own site it states:

"John Boehner (bay-ner) serves as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Elected to represent the Eighth Congressional District of Ohio for an 11th term in November 2010,..."

There is no discussion of any break and I'm wondering if anyone on the Ohio Freep list is aware of such a break. I'm planning to go back and look at all our reps across the state now in order to determine how many appear to be outside the limit. Any thoughts or ideas why the law isn't being followed here?

State term limits on federal offices were deemed unconstitutional.

Because the SCOTUS ruled that states cannot add additional restrictions to the requirements for being a Representative or Senator contained in the U.S. Constitution.

Very interesting. Thanks! Term limits, it seems, is necessary to counter the vote buying tendencies of career politicians.

Cry baby Boehner can be counted on for only one thing: to fold like a cheap suit.

I wish I lived five miles north so I could vote against him in a primary.

Boehner beat the Tea Party candidate in the primary 5 to 1.

Sadly.

The Tea Party candidate said he was trying to make a point about Boehners soft stance on abortion.
