Yep, the English, Scots, and Irish settled this area. I have to admit, I can’t pick up the similarities with my ear, but the proof is in the pudding.

RE : Southern accents ...I agree they sound OK but disagree that they genuinely sound southern. They might sound like they live in Atlanta but go 30 minutes outside of there and you will hear a strong 'twang' that is hard for an outsider to mimic....{sayin 'yall' once in a while ain't it].
