It is WAYYYYYY far from Vegas. In the game, wehat is Goodsprings is probably one of the old abandoned mining towns that dot the area.
Loyalty quest: Yup, that’s about where I was. Chyenne and Buffalo would be somewhere around there. Maybe closer to New Vegas due to scale, but generally.
On and the hill to the NCR base in the south really IS like that. Many a vehicle gave it’s life going up it in August.

Now I will Have to visit! Hoover dam is so big it sifted the tilt of the earth by a small (but measurable) degree.
Or maybe so when you are nailed to the walls of Hoover Dam, your body facing west so you may watch your world die
