Man Finds Baby Squirrel in Bag of Mulch
Yahoo News ^ | Tue, Mar 26, 2013 | Mellisa Knowles

When I was a kid, I always tried to persuade my mom to buy me the sugary cereal, but it was not just because it usually tasted delicious. It was because it came with a bonus: a prize at the bottom. Today's story is a bit like that, but in an adult version and way more exciting.

A man in Florida opened a new bag of mulch and, to his surprise, he found a baby squirrel inside. On Reddit, he is known only by his handle, "Nadtacular," but now the world is starting to know him because of his compassion. The baby squirrel was alive when he found it, and he decided to care for it and document its development. Nadtacular posted images of the baby squirrel, which he named "Zip," on Reddit. The first image was from when he discovered Zip; the subsequent images follow Zip's growth from hairless baby to a fun-loving 5-week-old. So far, Zip's pictures have been viewed more than 215,000 times on Reddit.

Didn't Ray Stevens have a song about something like this? Next thing you know there'll be a revival.

How long was it living in a bag of mulch?

If it cannot fend for itself, is it really viable? I’m just trying to use Obama’s abortion defense. Should he have been punished with a squirrel?

It’s 5 weeks now, probably able to handle solid food. What probably happened is that the mulch is very recent production, like a day or 2 before, and he just luckily survived his nest being ground up...

The critter at 5 weeks. That's not bad for a quadruped.

I know women who’ve raised neglected squirrels. Some lived. Some didn’t. They ABSOLUTELY do not want to ever have babies. But they feel it is a release for their maternal instincts. And of course they are liberals and of course the nation is doomed.

Carry on.

I watched my dog pick up a baby squirrel that had fallen out of a tree. The dog brought it to me without hurting it. I raised it on a bottle and it was a great pet. It would ride on my shoulder and when I walked past someone in the hall it would jump to their shoulder and ride there for a while.

I was standing in front of a mirror and the squirrel must have thought it was another person and it jumped. Only it hit the mirror and broke it’s back. It was paralyzed and I had to put it down. Broke my heart.

This photo brings back the memory of my mother. She was playing golf when a goose came out in the fairway and took her ball.

Mom went after the goose with a ball retriever, one of those things a person uses to get their ball out of water. She didn’t hurt the goose, just ‘goosed’ him until he dropped her ball. He didn’t like the treatment.
